It happened to me a couple months ago. Only it wasn't a credit card - it was my debit card. They sucked almost $400 out of my bank account before I realized what was going on.

My card wasn't stolen, either - it was in my wallet the entire time. Which means the card was "read" or intercepted somehow. My credit union cancelled the card and refunded the money and transfer charges as soon as the fraud was discovered, but it was very disconcerting.

I checked the status of all my credit cards online and there were no fraudulent charges on any of them. But I went to the three credit bureaus and put a 90-day fraud alert on my credit report, anyway.

Yup. Some douchebag tried to charge around the same amount ($3000) to my VISA a few months back. They tried to buy some trips (cruises?) and pharmaceuticals. VISA noticed the unusual activity, contacted me and shut those bitches down, pronto!

Got a second CC in case I'm w/out this one again (i.e. have to wait for new card, w/new acct# to be sent).
