I'm one of the only people I know who is smart and educated AND does not embrace cynicism at all. I do not consider it a virtue. I'm also not afraid to be openly loving and compassionate. I do consider those things to be virtues. Many of my fellow academic geeks think they are too cool to have emotions, and waaay too cool to be idealists. I'm special 'cause I'm not like them.
