Why don't you take a minute to read what a "Slut Walk" is actually about.

It started all this year in Toronto.

Toronto 'slut walk' takes to city streets

Posted: Apr 3, 2011 1:22 PM ET

A group of Toronto marchers took to the streets Sunday afternoon in what they’re calling a “slut walk" in response to controversial comments made by a police constable earlier this year.

In January, Toronto Police Const. Michael Sanguinetti told a personal security class at York University that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."

Sanguinetti apologized for his comments, but his apology failed to satisfy walk organizer Sonya Barnett.

"It was evident that if you're going to have a representative of the police force come out [and say that] then that kind of idea must be still running rampant within the force itself and that retraining really needs to happen to change that mentality," she said.

A statement on the event's website says: "Toronto Police have perpetuated the myth and stereotype of the slut, and in doing so have failed us."

Barnett said she wants to use the walk to reclaim the word and also demand that victim-shaming change.

The walk kicked off with a series of speeches at Queen’s Park at 1:30 p.m. ET. The walkers then marched to Toronto Police Headquarters on College Street.

When the story first broke in January, Toronto police Chief Bill Blair said Sanguinetti's comments highlight a "training issue" in the force.

"If that type of, frankly, archaic thinking still exists among any of my officers, it highlights for me the need to continue to train my officers and sensitize them to the reality of victimization," he said.

The comments attributed to the officer "place the blame upon victims, and that's not where the blame should ever be placed," Blair said.

I saw a video report on this a few weeks ago. While I understood the point of the people protesting, I thought they looked ridiculous prancing around the streets in their underwear with the word "slut" written on their faces, stomachs, legs, etc. It was offensive to me a woman, and I felt that the integrity of their cause was lost in the sensationalism of their "visual". Beyond an art installation, I can't see a reason when it's ever necessary for chicks to be walking the streets in bras & panties with the occasional s&m accoutrement. Plus, a good portion of the girls in the video frame came off as immature camera hoggers getting their "wave and whoo hoooooo scream" on just in time for the 6 o'clock news. While the dude who taught the course at NYU was clearly out of line for his comment (and I do believe it was worthy of counter-action/protest), from what I saw of the marchers, they did little to sway me to support them. Instead of their event giving me pause to celebrate a new wave of feminist movement post- Gloria Steinem, they came off like a bunch of inebriated frat chicks trying their best to look like Suicide Girls. Not impressed. coffee

At least people are talking about it. Without all these attention seeking sluts, there would be no attention for the way men treat woman as if they can prey upon them whenever they like.

It's the third feminism wave. It's a shame there's a need for another wave, however, I support them fully!

LOL I had not heard of the Slut Walk. That is awesome!

Yes the arguments that women should avoid looking like sluts and men should not rape women are two totally unrelated concepts, and should not be confused, especially by public officials.

My sentiments exactly.

I'm not exactly sure what a slut is in this day and age, but I refuse to deny my own sexuality (i.e being a woman and dressing as feminine as I see fit) because some fucker can't keep his dick in his pants.
