Your welcome. Yeah, The Ester Williams films? Damn, I didn't know sister girl made that many movies about, water. lol lol lol

Ms. Simmons was a brilliant actress, her films really didn't match her talent. Jerk Howard Hughes can be blamed for that; even so, I look forward to her month in June.

Esther Williams was champion swimmer - not a diver.

I ADORE Jean. Good one, Ms Trina! Nice to see we have a lot in common!! Jean is an actress, like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, Una Merkel, that I can watch in anything. So long at the fair is amazing, but you all HAVE to watch Home Before Dark. I saw that as a kid and it has always stuck with me. Jean is amazing in it. The one film of hers I hate is Guys and Dolls.

Oh and Esther Williams has a godawful annoying voice. One more thing about her-if you read her autobio-she comes off as a really petty, unpleasant woman and she was a godawful mother. Her 2nd hubby, Fernando Lamas (Lorenzo's daddy) hated her kids for no other reason than that Esther had them with another man and what did she do? She abandoned her kids for Fernando. She would have to sneak off and see them. He wouldn't even let her swim-didn't want her to keep up her figure and be attractive to other men. Then again, he gave Lana Turner a beat down from hell one night.

You hate 'Guys adn Dolls'? eek Love it! lol

I'm really looking forward to this, I've seen all of the movies listed but many haven't been seen in YEARS. I was kinda shocked when Ms. Simmons passed last year TMC didn't do a retrospective then, what the hell were they thinking?

Everyone make sure you watch "Angel Face", the film Hughes thought would kill Ms. Simmons career but it turned out to be a hit and she was magnificent. I'm looking forward to seeing "Hamlet" and "The Happy Ending". For those who don't know, ( Ms. Simmons was nominated for an Oscar) but the jazz standard, "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life", came from this movie. Lyrics written by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman. Music the great composer, Michel Legrand. Get your popcorn ready. biggrin

Yeah, I am surprised TCM didn't play up her death more, but there you have it. I am glad they are paying tribute now. i prefer her to Deborah kerr and some others of that time period.

LOL, those movies were massively popular. I've never seen one but some of the clips look interesting, but beyond a 3 minute clip and it must get pretty tiresome.

Harlepolis

Just in the "rate the last film" thread I was saying that I needed to see "Black Narcissus" thumbs up! and I need to see "The Actress" on the strength of George Cukor alone.
