Wonderful, cymbol58. I pray you continue to do well.
My worst illness has been chronic depression that on a couple occasions has threatened to take me out of here. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Yay! You are a success story! What are you doing to enjoy your life?
I was born with a degenerative connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome for which there is no cure. I will be in constant pain, in and out of wheelchairs and hospitals, for the rest of my life. Sometimes I'm so sick I can't do a thing, other times I'm vibrant and jumping up and down. My mood is similarly labile, and is often connected to how I'm feeling physically. It can be hard knowing that I will never get better, only worse.
But I still work full time caring for people with severe disabilities, cook dinner from scratch every night, have a fulfilling and joyful marriage and a great relationship with my children. There are so many in perfect health who wish for what I have been blessed with, so I try to remember that when I get down.
Best wishes for your continued health and strength!

Theres always a way around. Doctors neglect the 7 energy systems of the body. Look into some healing meditation, and some orgone. Though you'll probably think I'm just speaking taboo and gibberish, like most people. Sadly no one looks into the stuff I say. I could porst the entire scientific data of it, but idk.

[Edited 6/2/11 9:33am] You are such a strong woman Erin and your post really touched me . I wish you to never loose your way of thinking as it truly is a blessing . You very much remind me of my dad who had Multiple Sclerosis among other serious health problems and knew it would only get worse and was suffering so very much for more than 20 years, but always stayed positive no matter how much pain and health problems he was facing. Even when he was pretty much blind, in constant pain and in a wheelchair (and the last years could not even sit in there anymore, but had to lie in his bed all day long) he was a happier person than I will ever be, despite all that he had to go through. I wish I was nearly as strong and positive as he was . It's ironic that he always called me his sunshine because according to him I was the one who made his life brighter when he was so much more positive than I could ever be. I googled your disease as I never heard the name before and I am surprised as I have some of the symptoms (most of them in a mild form) myself. But as I don't have others (like getting ugly scars easily) it might just be a coincidence that some of the symptoms apply for me. But if any of the symptoms might get worse at least I know what question I could ask a doctor then. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Cymbol58 , that's great to know, TY for sharing your story. I am glad you are better and continued good health to you.
I have a chronic condition called asthma... so used to it that its just how life is... I have bad allergies and I can no longer tolerate pets. My mom tells me as a baby I almost died from the asthma because I got double pneumonia and was at death's door when I arrived to the hospital and they had to resuscitate me ... I don't remember any of it. I only know how people tell me that it is a miracle that I am alive that I almost died as a baby. I am glad I am still here, I praise God for it.
three years ago, I finally stopped taking steroids, I am better now and now I don't look so sick and swollen from the meds.
Being able to feel strong again and breathe easy is a wonderful thing indeed, this you already know.

I'm 43 and I've been lucky so far. The only surgery I've ever had in my life was having some back teeth pulled and that was last year. I'm a big ass baby and was scared as hell before having them pulled. You would have thought I was going in for open heart surgery. I've never been in the hospital other than to visit someone else. I'm getting older now and my day is eventually coming, especially since I'm a smoker since 1985, but as I said before, I have been very lucky.
Cymbol, it's great that you beat it and I wish you more good health in the future. . . . [Edited 6/2/11 13:22pm] Andy is a four letter word.

According to my parents, I was very, very ill my first few weeks of life. They weren't sure I was going to make it - I had all kinds of tubes in me, and I was in the hospital a long time. But nothing that bad ever since - no broken bones, major surgeries, etc.
At age 50, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I get my prostate and colon checked every year. For you dudes 40+, don't fuck around with this shit. Prostate/colon cancer is no joke.

Glad to hear you are doing better with the remission, and OMG Zombie Kitten, poor you *hug*
I had a hernia as a kid, but just before the operation, I got better and didn't need it. Other than that, dehydration one time for a few days, it was the worst feeling ever.

I don't remember any of it, I was too young back in those days though parents weren't really encouraged to stay with their kid in the hospital, and I read my mum's diary and she was out partying while I was suffering

Thanks, Martina.
Ehlers Danlos was only discovered a few decades ago, and is still very poorly understood and widely misdiagnosed. Patients see an average of thirteen doctors for their symptoms (pain, joint dislocations, respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms, etc.) before being properly diagnosed! Many patients are told it's all in their heads, just because the doctor is unfamiliar with the answer to the riddle that all the wide-ranging symptoms are clues to. It's why the Ehlers Danlos National Foundation urges doctors: "when you hear hoofbeats, think zebras, not horses." Doctors in general are terrible at thinking outside of their normal experience and considering unusual possibilities.
If you do ever think you should be evaluated, a geneticist is the only doctor who can really diagnose EDS. It's a genetic mutation and is studied primarily by geneticists, with some involvement by rheumatologists. The rheums don't do much for you though, since unlike arthritis it's not an inflammatory condition. You can't treat the source of the pains, as the source is fragile tissue that was poorly made in the first place. Physical therapy can strengthen the muscles, but often damages the joints.

Hey Erin, have you read the book Life Disrupted by Laurie Edwards? I really think you should if you haven't.
