But the later teams were much tougher. They had to be, after what happened to LA in the '84 Finals against Boston.
Two of my favorite squads were the '76-'77 Blazers and the '78-'79 Sonics. They epitomized team ball. The Sonics were fun as hell to watch, led by the brilliant play of Gus 'The Wizard' Williams, Dennis Johnson and 'Downtown' Freddie Brown. Shit, they would have won back-to-back titles if DJ didn't pull a John Starks in Game 7 of the '78 Finals.
The Blazers were better the year after they won the title. At one point, they were 50-10, 50-5 with Walton in the lineup. But once Big Red went down, that was it.
LittleBLUE is right. The first three-peat Bulls were better top-to-bottom(and faced tougher competition) than the second three-peat Bulls. I'd say the '91-'92 squad was the best.
I agree. It's scary to say, but the 85 and 87 teams were complete than the 82 title team.
Re: the Bulls teams, the 91 Lakers, 92 Blazers and 93 Suns were deeper and more athletic than the 97 and 98 Jazz. But the 96 Sonics may have been the best overall team CHI faced in the Finals. They took a 72-10 team to six games. That's impressive.
The games they won I believe Ron Harper was injured. |

96 Sonics were good, but I'd say not up there with the Blazers and Suns of 92 and 93. I think they could take the 91 Lakers though.
Hell, give me the 93 Knicks over the 96 Sonics. PRINCE: Always and Forever

NBA Draft 2011 later tonight. All the experts say it's a weak one. Knicks have the 17th pick. |

OK, so I take back my previous thoughts on Odom and the Lakers. Evidently they offered him straight up to the Timberwolves for their number two pick. The T-Wolves declined and asked for either Bynum or Gasol instead. The Lakers declined.
Also saw that there was a proposed trade of couple Laker's bench players for Andre Iguodala, but that's not happening either.
Lastly, looks like Monte Ellis could be staying in Oakland! Woot! Still a long time until the season starts (if there isn't a lockout), but all the signs are positive. |

The Knick fans in attendance booed the Shumpert pick. I read the kid is solid on defense, which means D'Amdummy won't play him. |

Yeah, but for the most part, the only times they cheered were when someone from a local or nearby school was picked. |

Yeah, there's been tons of news with players and teams picking up options, players become free agents, teams making qualifying offers and even a few trades. None of it seemed worth posting/talking about until after these rich idiots get their money right. |

Yep, and this is totally different from the NFL. That league made $9 billion in a down economy, yet a group of owners staged a work stoppage. Had nothing to do with the players, it was a class struggle between owners - the "haves"(Cincy, Buffalo, Carolina) vs. the "have mores"(Dallas, Washington, New England, NY). Nothing but a money grab over future profits. Some of the "have mores" were against this lockout, but they have to present a united front.
The NBA is the exact opposite. They have serious financial problems, with many teams operating in the red(expansion killed the league, IMO). So expect a long lockout. |

Totally agree.
But I still think the rich idiots could have done a better job of getting their money right all along and done quite a bit in the process to help prevent the current state of the Association. |

I predicted that was going to happen somewhere in one of these threads. self. Not like it was a huge surprise, though. Dude had said himself before the last injury that he wouldn't make another comeback if it happened again. Makes Shaq look that much more bad ass, imo. |

Yao was a skilled player and had the tools to become a true great. His body betrayed him. He gave us a few good years though.
