Agreed. Our doctors have become legalized drug dealers. There is literally no difference between the abuse of oxycoton, for instance, and cocaine or heroin. Dr's know it. And the pharmaceutical industry is well aware of the tidal wave of legal drug abuse in America. I just watched a two part story on pbs about the abuse of meth, and how Big Pharma has pushed back on any restrictions on ephedra and mainly pseudoephedrine for over 15 years now. Pseudophedrine, of course, is the main ingredient in meth, and for decades, over the counter cold medicines. Even when many states have limited the use of pseudofed, countries like India and Mexico have been supplying the drug in massive quanities for years. Most of the psuedofed trade can be tied to the American pharmaceutical industry, while they sit back and watch so many Americans and people around the world ruin their lives.

Check out the story called "The Meth Epidemic". If you're short on time, you can jump to the 14 minute mark, which describes the reasons for the up-and-down abuse of meth, and then the pharmaceutical industry's involvement. I recommend watching both videos, and show your kids if you have them.

I saw that. It was crazy how they were able to corolate(sp?) the crime rates with the purity and source of the meth ingredients. | |

Just makes me wonder if meth addicts can be rehabilitated or if the ones who are "dry" are just on a down-turn because the purity of the meth is lower. I have a buddy who's been in and out of rehab and half-way homes for the last ten years, with no end in site. It makes me very sad for him. If you saw the part in the video comparing the dopamine levels of crystal meth to food, sex, and other drugs - the spike is off the chart...Scary. I have two friends that are addicts. One has been sober for over 25 years. She abused cocaine. My other friend abused meth and crack from when he was around 15 years old. He has been sober for 8 years. So yeah I do believe in rehabilitation. Mind you, both of them were off the hook bad. That is so good to hear... I love hearing about success stories like these. My father lost his whole family because of alcoholism, but has been sober for about 30 yrs. We are good friends now because of his recovery. I go to his anniversary meeting every year and get so inspired by the progress people make after years and years of alcohol abuse.
