I take it that you are a Pepsi guy then?

There most certainly is a difference...Pepsi is better.

I'm down to having a soda maybe once a month though. I'm trying to get off the stuff. lol

highfive I agree, Pepsi is definitely better. I love that stuff! I'm trying to not drink it too. I started drinking water instead. So far so good (although water makes me pee a lot more than Pepsi does, which is kind of annoying). lol

I remember when I was in the Air Force, our drill instructor highly encouraged us not to drink soda. lol

There were no scientific studies that he pointed to. He merely gave anecdotal evidence based on what he saw from his years of experience watching Airmen train in the Texas summer heat.

He explicitly told us that if we drank soda, we'd drop like flies during training.

He said that it was at the top of the list of things not to put in your body if you

were trying to improve or health or just survive. He went on for almost 20

minutes about it and was very explicit that it was the worst thing to do during

basic training.

Because of this, I spent most of my 20s not ingesting any soda at all.

I'm a heavy soda drinker, although in the last month or so I've been drinking a bit less...it honestly doesn't surprise me to read where they compare it to hard street drugs, at all. I think anyone whose ever been a really heavy soda drinker and then had those really intense cravings after awhile with out it, knows that already. lol

And yeah there's a definite difference between Pepsi and Coke. Pepsi is much sweeter, and imo much stronger as well.

Whilst it may not be the healthiest of combos, I will admit I do enjoy having a nice cold glass of Pepsi Max or Coke Zero with a take-out Pizza once or twice a month. I do have it when I come home from work sometimes too if it's been a hot day, or a glass with my Sunday lunch, but that's it.

When I'm at work it's either Lucozade and/or plenty of water - that said, I bet Lucozade isn't all it's cracked up to be either.

Oh yes. Pepsi tastes like a Coke with too much sugar that's gone flat.

The only time I drink regular Coke these days is to mix either Jim Beam or Jack Daniels with. For some reason, I've always been scared to mix liquor with diet drinks. I think somebody told me once that it would make you sick so I don't even try it. lol Anyway, I always have some left over in the refrigerator the next morning so I end up drinking the real Coke and I can't taste the difference between it and Coke Zero.

Speaking of generic soft drinks, another great line of them is Big K from Kroger's. They taste really good and there is a large variety of them from colas, to fruit flavors, to diets. A 2 liter is less than a dollar.

When somebody drinks a Coke watch what happens…

  • In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
  • 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
  • 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
  • 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
  • >60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
  • >60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
  • >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

thumbs up!

You forgot to mention that in addition to ridding yor body of much-needed calcium...the citric acid (I believe) also HINDERS the body's ability to ABSORB the stuff.

nod

I used to drink at least 1 and as many as 3 cokes a day, every day, since college. I never smoked, rarely ever drank, so my only vice was Coca-cola. Without my lunchtime coke, I would crash at my desk. It was a bonafide addiction.

Now I drink mostly WATER with my meals. I've also been working out, but I'm sure that the abstinence from soda has helped me lose about 25lbs in 4 months. Most of that from my GUT!

nod

When you go out to eat, it's best to order water and not have any soft drinks at all. You spend less money. cool
