I Found Out That My Co-Worker Died Last Night

I took my daugher in to work tonight to say hello to people and eat and I heard some sad news.

A man who works in the back, Anthony, died last night while watching television. He died of cancer and he never even knew that he had it.

He was in his 50's... a very quiet man, but I would always go back there and poke him in the sides when he was working, because he was painfully shy and I know how that is, as I am as well... and he always got a chuckle out of it. He would call me Miss Heather... it was cute.

It's very sad and I can't believe I just saw him Thursday... I'm glad that I poked him one last time when I was on my way out the door, and he gave me a hug because I am starting work at a different place tomorrow. It's just very hard to take... even though I knew him for a short time. I guess we just had a lot in common in certain ways.

It's strange how people can touch your heart in such a short period of time... he will certainly be missed.

sad

I can relate...a few years ago one of my old classmates was stabbed to death after being asked for his wallet (which he gave the offender) outside a train station. I had left the school to go to another school at that time, but I read about it in the papers and it hit me really bad. He was a friend who I sat near in music class and even though I didn't know him that well, I'll always think about how he played Nirvana's "Nevermind" for a project in class...it was my first introduction to one of my favourite bands.

It happened to me two years ago. I had to scramble to replace the person.

Things like this really make me realize to appreciate those who are in my life, because you never know when they'll just be gone.

That is so true. Sometimes we take things for granted, including people. It's good to see that you had good memories from the guy.

This is terrible. All I can say is at least you had that last moment with him. I know it doesn't take away the loss, but at least you have that good memory.

I still really can't believe it.

Cancer is a horrible thing... I am glad that he wasn't aware that he had cancer, so that he was able to live his life without worry of wondering when. Though, perhaps if he did know he could have sought treatment and this wouldn't have happened.

It's just odd... just a few days ago I was teasing him to make him laugh, as everyone else thought he was mean because he didn't speak... when, in reality, he was too shy to speak. Now he's just gone...

I don't like it.

Cancer is a horrible thing. My mother died of it.

I'm glad though that you got to know him a bit, and you were nice to him.

There was a girl who was a freshmen at highschool who died back in the fall from a drunk driving incident. Died with her mother. The drunk guy got out and walked away, of course. Anyhow, I never knew her, and that made me feel bad. No one else really knew here either, and that made me feel worse.

Extremely sorry to hear Azure, yes... "time" is a valuable asset... that is why it is so valuable to use our "time" here wisely with ourselves and with others. Time and life may end at any given moment, appreciate each new day. heart

Battier, I am painfully sorry to hear about your mother... truly I am. rose hug

The concept of life and death is so strange and sad sometimes. Just a week ago, a co-worker of my boyfriend died on her way to work. The roads were slippery and a head-on-collision happened, a truck lost control and hit her car straight on. Its so sad how a normal work day turned out being her last... so quickly.
We do need to be conscious of how precious life is and how fast and unexpectedly can be taken away. sad

I'am so sorry to hear that, he sounded like a very sweet person. It's true what they say, we should never take anything or anyone for granted, or never go to bed holding a grudge against someone cause we never know what tomorrow has instore for us. hug My heart goes out to you.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It is amazing sometimes how much people touch our lives yet we only realise it when they are gone. It is important to cherish each day and tell those around us how much they mean to us.
