'Taxi' star Jeff Conaway hospitalized in a coma Saw this ... and was not surprised ... but still ...
Jeff was the reason I watched Celebrity Rehab . So wanted him to get better .
At least it appears a few people have gotten better but ... dang .

That's a shame. That guy has so many demons. I thought he was one of the best looking guys on the planet back in the day...it's too bad he was destroyed by his addictions. | |

i actually NEVER saw Grease . My kids watch it all the time !
I just turned on Celebrity Rehab ... and got hooked ... i rememember him of course from TAXI , but to me on TAXI- his charactor was the one I forgot pretty much ...

He was an absolute mess & his spouse should have had him commited to detox. Im surprised it didnt happen sooner.

Jeff Conaway, an actor in the TV serial “Taxi” and the film musical “Grease,” was rushed to the hospital on May 11 and is currently on the “razor's edge,” according to a CNN report.
Early reports had suggested Conaway suffered from a drug overdose, though an unnamed source informed CNN that this was not the case, and the network confirmed his ailments included pneumonia and a blood infection. Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Conaway on the show “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” for the 60-year-old actor's drug abuse problems, confirmed via Twitter that an overdose was not the cause of his current condition.
"He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead," Pinsky tweeted after visiting Conaway on Friday.
Phil Brock, Conaway's manager, said that his client had apparently been unconscious for 8 to 9 hours before he was found. According to CNN's source, Conaway's drug use likely caused him to fail to realize how ill he truly was. The next 72 hours will prove crucial for his recovery, the source added.
At present, doctors at the hospital in Encino, California have Conaway in a medically-induced coma to prevent him from thrashing in his bed.
"He's a really wonderful soul, a very kind and wonderful person," Brock said.

Jeff Conaway’s family has decided to turn off the actor’s life support machine, RadarOnline.com has learned. The family, who has kept a vigil at the Los Angeles hospital where he has remained in a coma after being found unconscious at home, were told by doctors the star’s fight for life is over.
"Doctors advised the family that Jeff has had no brain function since he was brought into the hospital," a source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com. "The feeding tube has already been removed. The ventilator which is breathing for Jeff, will be removed sometime this afternoon.”
Said the pal: “Jeff is in no pain whatsoever."
It's unknown how Conaway, 60, will cope when the machine is switched off.
"No measures will be made to try and revive him once the breathing tube is removed," the source said. "Jeff has remained unconscious and is unaware of what is going on."
The former Taxi star was hospitalized on May 11 for what was though to be a prescription drug overdose. Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Conaway on "Celebrity Rehab," later said the star of Grease, 60, was suffering from pneumonia and sepsis, a severe illness in which the bloodstream is overwhelmed by bacteria, and had slipped into a coma.
Conaway starred as the bad-boy Kenickie in the 1978 film musical Grease and later achieved further success portraying struggling actor Bobby Wheeler on the TV sitcom Taxi for three seasons.
His battles with substance abuse reportedly date back to the 1980s. | |

He isn't even in a coma. The man is dead, for all intents and purposes. His brain is gone, a machine is breathing for him.

I only know of him through VH1's Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Wow. He has had health issues for some time and when he was on the show he looked like he was near death. This is the result of a lifetime of drug abuse. Hope he pulls through. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I'm not saying that his will happen in Jeff's case, but...
a person can live for years (decades, even) while in a coma, even without being on a ventilator (breathing machine).
That being said...in my experience with sepsis is that it is the most frequent cause of death in the hospitals where I've worked. It can literally shut down all your vital organs if it isn't caught and treated soon enough. Of course Jeff's poor health from his drug issues will just make it even more difficult for the body to fight it.

C.L. Franklin and Jackie Wilson "lived" for several years until doctors finally knew it was IMPOSSIBLE to bring them back. I just don't get that. I never understood why Terry Schaivo for instance was kept like that for that long until they finally let it go. I somehow hope it DON'T happen in Jeff's case. That would be worse. Just let him go out with some peace. | |

Timmy, I agree with you 100%. The reality is that the people who love us can have a really hard time being the person who makes that decision to let us die. It's sweet in a sad way. The most important thing we can do is to make our wishes known by having "Advanced Directives" which will document what our end-of-life wishes are. Then the hospital will not have to wait for a family member to be the one deciding.
