What movie you finally watched and was disappointed?

I've heard so much about Annie Hall....finally watched it the other night. Very disappointed. Out of 10 stars I'd give it a 3.5.

I really wanted to like it too, but the comedy was just too dated.

Up. Everybody just raved about it - and I thought the first 20 minutes were the best of it (and the only part worth watching, really).

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Hell's Angels

The airplane dogfighting scenes were advanced for its time, but it was only worth watching to me to see Jean Harlow almost fall out of her dress.

edit: I'm interpreting the OP as meaning well-known films widely regarded as being good that you saw just recently after most other people had already seen them and was disappointed. There are a lot of movies that disappointed me that I saw around the same time that most other people saw them: Fight Club, Crash (2004), Changeling, etc.

That movie is awesome, but I know it front to back, maybe it is a little dated

from what's been mentioned here so far:

I totally agree Up was over-rated and that the first 20 minutes were by far and away the best part of the movie. But for myself, I would still stop short of calling it disappointing. I thought it was good, not great.

Black Swan was same - good but not great.

Lost in Tranlsation was a total bore. Didn't understand why it was so highly rated. I would actually stop just short of saying it made me want to hang myself.

Refused to see Dances With Smurfs and never will.

My contributions are Inception. I so very rarely go to the movies and thought this was supposed to be some sort of mind bending brilliant movie. My God - 275 gun battles later and I was falling asleep. I was SO happy when Southpark parodied that mess and poked fun at it for the very same reasons I hated it.

And I'll throw in The Hangover for good measure although some of us just recently talked about it. Almost everyone I knew saw that movie and thought it was one of the funniest things they had ever seen. Don't think i laughed once.

I agree that Black Swan and Up may be slightly overrated.

I love Lost In Translation. If you hated it then I definitely would NOT recommend Sofia Coppola's latest film Somewhere which to me was very similar (but I didn't like it as much).

Avatar is only worth seeing in 3D on an IMAX screen for the effects. Beyond that, it was very mediocre.

I thought Inception was fine for an action movie.

I've never seen The Hangover and never will. I don't like those type of movies.

Are you kidding me?? That movie is a classic! It's so perfect! I've seen it numerous times and still love it to this day.

One movie that was a total disappointment for me was Avatar. Waste of my time. I'm not a big fan of movies like this, so I should've known better.

Harsh. But the impression I get from what you've posted in the past is you just don't like most movies.

It may sound that way but there are quite a few films that I like.

The Exorcist.

I think that's the most overrated movie of all time.

Oh no! Have you seen horror movies before The Exorcist? And then after... it was pioneering. And SERIOUS.

I agree that the opening of "UP" is the best part.

"Black Swan" is a b-movie horror homage to stuff from the 70's like Dario Argento... but it was NOTHING new! It amazes me that it got so much hype and became his most successful movie. He could have made that with his eyes closed. By the book horror.

I totally agree about "The Hangover"... it didn't seem to funny at all to me. Almost like it was trying to be crazy and fun... but it just kept trying... I didn't hear anyone in my theater really crack up once. I also remember seeing a double sneak into the theater viweing of "Wedding Crashers" and "40 Year Old Virgin". Boy, "Virgin" kicked "Crashers" ass for laughs in the theater. "Crashers" was also a popular comedy that I thought was mediocre and retreading shit.

...That's actually a good point. For the era it was released in, maybe it was the first really shocking horror movie. So it's probably a case of 'you just had to be there', because when I saw it I ended up distracted and looking around the room and daydreaming and stuff, it just completely failed to impress me or hold my attention or shock me or put any fear in me lol .

Although, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is pretty tame compared to a lot of stuff I've seen, but I immediately loved it and understood the appeal - I actually went out and bought the dvd, so it's not like all old-school horror is completely lost on me. "Alice, Sweet Alice" actually unnerved the shit out of me when I saw it for the first time as a kid, which is interesting to think about when, by then I'd already been watching Freddy Krueger, Jason and tons of other horror for a long time, so it's not like I was a n00b or easily shocked.

I like 'Inception' although it's somewhat misguided. Interesting crime caper to me.

The Hangover, I still enjoy it, and still laugh. I can understand why it's not for everyone though.
