Man finds $45,000 in new house and returns it

I love stories like this:

Family finds $45,000 in new home — then returns it

In this photo taken May 18, 2011, from left, Josh and Tara Ferrin, who recently closed on a new home, turn over bags of money and ammo boxes to Dennis AP – In this photo taken May 18, 2011, from left, Josh and Tara Ferrin, who recently closed on a new home, …

SALT LAKE CITY – When Josh Ferrin closed on his family's first home, he never thought he'd make the discovery of a lifetime — then give it back.

Ferrin picked up the keys earlier this week and decided to check out the house in the Salt Lake City suburb of Bountiful. He was excited to finally have a place his family could call their own.

As he walked into the garage, a piece of cloth that clung to an attic door caught his eye. He opened the hatch and climbed up the ladder, then pulled out a metal box that looked like a World War II ammunition case.

"I freaked out, locked it my car, and called my wife to tell her she wouldn't believe what I had found," said Ferrin, who works as an artist for the Deseret News in Salt Lake City.

Least he returned it, there was some dweebs who claimed they saw about $100,000 in a tree or something. Instead of returning it, they spent on a bunch of shit. The FBI caught up to them eventually...least I think it was the FBI but they got arrested. I saw that on truTV one night.

It's sweet that he returned it, but he was under no legal obligation to do so. Once you close on a house, you own it and everything it contains - lock, stock and $45,000 barrel. shrug

that's what I'm saying. kudos on being a decent human being (or not wanting to get shot by whoever owns it!), but yeah....that shit is actually his.

Good on him, I am sure if he had spent it, his conscience would have caught with him eventually.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

But how do we know it was really $75K that was found but they pocketed that and then reported that they found only $45K? hmmm Cuz that's what I would have done. Taken at least part of it but not all.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I thought the exact same thing.

I wouldn't have kept all of it...but I might have kept some.

My father was like that. Before he died, he had most of his money in two attaches and a paper bag. After he died, and we were cleaning out his apartment, I found another $600 hidden under the bedroom carpet. No telling where else he might have hidden cash, but I scoured every nook and cranny. We even had to search the house my mom was living in because he built that house, and I knew he had money hidden there, too. After all was said and done, we Mom, my brother and I) counted $450,000.00.

When my mom and I cleaned out my grandfather's apartment (when he moved to a nursing home), we found $2000 in a clothes hamper. He lived poor as a churchmouse, but he had his little stash.

disbelief I would have kept that money. For all this guy knows, the previous owner may have been hiding it from the family and this fool turns around and gives it to them.

hah! that dough was rolled and banded up like skripper money. 20s and 10s and shit!

Anybody who lived during the depression and remembers their money going up in smoke in banks. This guy never told his kids about the money, kudos to the homeowners for doing the standup thing.

Good thing that house never caught on fire. Now that would have been money wasted indeed.
