Loud Cell-Phone Talker Removed from Train by Police

Loud cell-phone talker re... by police

Bravo to the cops. But why'd they wait 16 hours? They should have thrown her simple ass off the train sooner.

After a hour, I'd have walked up to her and started screaming into her phone.

16 hours of jabbering?!? Holey moley. She needs to be a Senator, because she is the best filibusterer EVER.

And what kind of battery does she have that gives her 16 hours of talk time? I want one!

But seriously, I'd have started shouting into her phone so she couldn't have a conversation.

I saw and read this article. This is so a negative show of an inconsiderate display of how some people act out.

This woman chose to be act big, bad and tough while people were just trying to relax and stress down while enroute to their different locations. I'm so wondering why she displayed such offensiveness. I must say this is not a good time for such an incident to happen. I noticed the comments section of the article was shut down.

If I would have been a passenger on the same car with her, I too would have been irritated.

After reading the article about this woman, I read the comments and could see/feel the direction is was headed.

Note: the comments stream closed down only after 3 people commented.

I'm sure it is not allowed to post some one elses response to a story. However I can paraphrase. Here is one of three comments, not using the exact wordage.

Commenter number 3 posted: (paraphrased) "Simians will be simians."

and below is one of six to replies to the above post:

(also paraphrased)

"the site will not let me give mrmike a thumbs up. the cell phone prattler is a lower primate. one cannot permeate a slumian rubbish into proper demeanor."

IMO, I can say and feel that many readers of this story will choose to catagorize all African American females while using this story as a catalyst. That's the shame of it all.

Hopefully this woman will have enough moxie to render some sort verbal show of regret for her actions.

This thread will prove interesting and hopefully it will not polarize into targeting or stereotyping.

Yeah, but those racist c-suckers don't have the cajones to say that shit to a black person's face. Nothing but e-thugs, acting all rough and shit from behind their computer.

16 minutes would been more than I would have tolerated. lol

Loud yapping in quiet areas is low class enough, but in a designated quiet area? She should be fined.

I hate people who yap on cellphones. texting is annoying because it just looks pretentious, but cellphone yapping is disturbing, especially when it's loud and protracted. So many of the kids here do it--honestly, it's just as bad as smoking in restaurants or public places. Just rude.

What could that bitch talk about for 16 hours? lol

falloff!

KOMO News reports that Lakeysha Bea...respected" by the incident, though passengers said it was Beard who was being rude by refusing to stop yapping while sitting in one of the train's designated quiet cars. She had not stopped talking since the train pulled out of Oakland, California, 16 hours before it reached Salem, Oregon, when a passenger confronted her about the talking. That's when Beard got "aggressive," KATU reports, and conductors stopped the train so that police could remove her and charge her with disorderly conduct.

Amtrak created quiet cars in 2001 when a group of passengers who rode the Philadelphia to D.C. route every morning asked if they could reserve a car where cell-phone loudmouths weren't welcome. Ever since, the rare havens of quiet have become a battlefield between silence-loving rule-followers and rebellious cell-phone addicts. Gawker suggested, not without a ...sincerity, that the cops who removed Beard from the train were heroes, and that Beard should be charged with "unspeakable crimes against humanity and sentenced to life on some distant planet where there are no reception bars, ever."

. . .

Meanwhile writer Christopher Buckley, a self-described quiet car Nazi, wonders why there would be any confusion as to the correct behavior in that part of the train: "The Quiet Car does not hide its light under a bushel. Prominent and explicit signs hang from the ceiling at five-foot intervals. They declare, unequivocally, that NO CELL PHONES ARE PERMITTED and that conversation must be kept to a minimum and in hushed tones."

it's not often in life that we find people like this who are as rude as they are stupid.

I do wish there was a second part of this headline that read "...and dropped into a deep canyon". After 16 hours of unyielding torment, I'm amazed the other passengers didn't revert to primitive survival instincts and start clubbing her to death with those things they give you to stir your coffee. fuse

Yeah, but there's no "quiet car" for the subway. All that loud talkin' is just what the subway's about, so I almost expect to hear stuff like that. But NOT in an area designated for quiet and relaxation.

I agree, you hate to see these stories take an ugly turn, and I don't doubt that the first comment about simians is meant to be racist, but...whether they are black, white, red, brown, purple, or yellow, I do agree "the cell phone prattler is a lower primate" lol

Why is rude becoming the new sexy?

I swear I'd have gone bonkers. 16 hours? But folks do it all the time, personally I don't get the need. I have to admire the other commuters for not going stark raving mad.

Whatever happened to reading a book or enjoying the scenery out the window or even striking a friendly conversation with your fellow passengers? The invention of cell phones, texting, etc. has created this world of self isolation. I just don't get it, just because you have one of these devices in your possesion, you feel compelled to keep using it.
