A Texas high school is engulfed in scandal after a first-year teacher was arrested on charges of having sex with five students.

Police said 27-year-old teacher Brittni Nicole Colleps also exchanged sexually-explicit text and picture messages with the students before her arrest on Monday.

The English teacher and girls' basketball coach was accused of having improper relationships with five male Kennedale High School students, who were all 18 years old or older; however, Texas law prohibits sex between a teacher and a student, regardless of the student’s age.

Video footage taken from one student's cell phone showed him and Ms Colleps having sex with other students in the room, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Arlington police began investigating the allegations on May 11 after being notified by school staff.

According to investigators, the students described having sex with Ms Colleps at her home during April and May of this year.

Ms Colleps is a married mother-of-three, the Dallas Morning News reported. Her husband, who works in the military, was stationed outside of Texas, the newspaper said.

She could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.

It's none of the business of the state then. Sure, the school should have the power to fire the woman--afterall, they have a reputation to uphold.

If that's so important to them then that's the career that should be paying their bills.
