Schwarzenegger Admits Fathering Child With Household Staffer [img:$uid]http://i56.tinypic.com/2hd4hoy.jpg[/img:$uid]
May 17, 2011
The discovery of a child fathered by ex-California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger with a member of his household staff resulted in the separation from his wife Maria Shriver, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times early Tuesday morning.
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger said in a statement issued to The Times after reporter's inquires. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."
Shriver has moved out of the couple's Brentwood, Calif. home. A spokesperson for Shriver gave no comment to the Times about the issue. The news comes as the couple publicly announced in a joint statement last week that they were separating after 25 years of marriage.
Schwarzenegger asked for the media to "respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," according to the statement to issued to The Times. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not. "
In last week's statement, the couple said they mutually came to the decision to separate while they live apart and "decide on the future of their relationship."
"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together," Shriver and Schwarzenegger said in the May 9 statement.
The Times reported the staffer involved had worked for the couple for 20 years before retiring at the beginning of this year.
The ex-staffer, who is not named in the Times story to protect her privacy, said she "left on good terms with them."
She told the Times that her "then-husband -- was the child's father."
A source told the Times that Schwarzenegger continues to provide for the child financially.

It's always the same story, people should just give up on marriage.

The fact that this has been kept a secret for so long is amazing. I read that the child was born before he began serving as CA's governor. I wonder what he gave her in return for her keeping her mouth shut.
But, this really doesn't surprise me, regarding his behavior. He was known to be quite the whore prior to taking office. Besides, I figured something had to have triggered this divorce after it seemingly popped up outta nowhere after being married for 25 years.

Not surprised. I was suspecting that the reason might be related to an affair.
You don't separate from someone after being married for such a long time, unless the reason was something HUGE.

It's probably different for every person, but overall I tend to believe that (if you truly "know" the person that you're with) it's very apparent when they stray.
You get that "gut" feeling when he/she starts acting differently...distancing themselves from you physically/emotionally, hiding the cell phone, texting in the bathroom and "grabbing a drink with friends" more often than ever.
Obviously with rich people it's much easier to keep things on the D/L, but still she must've suspected something at least! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I've got no comments on the actual drama, but I'll just say I dig this line: "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not." Public figures (and officials) so often willingly live their lives in front of us all, then try to pull the privacy card when something unflattering happens. Here we see a guy who understands -- even says he deserves -- the rubbernecking and public discourse, but takes it on in lieu of parties who have been thrown into it unwillingly. I dig that. Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child more than 10 years ago outside of his marriage to Maria Shriver, a source close to the former California governor confirmed to CNN Tuesday. The revelation, published first by the Los Angeles Times, came about a week after Schwarzenegger and his wife of 25 years announced that they were "amicably separating." "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger said in a statement obtained by CNN. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry." Schwarzenegger fathered the child with a household staffer, the Times article said. He has provided support for the child since birth, the source told CNN. The staffer told the newspaper that the child was fathered by her then-husband, according to the Times. She declined to comment after learning of Schwarzenegger's statement, the newspaper reported. The newspaper quoted her as saying she recently retired "on good terms" with the couple after working for them for 20 years. The newspaper said it was not publishing the former staffer's name or that of her child to protect their privacy. The May 9 announcement that the couple was separating did not mention a reason for the split, but said the decision was a mutual one. "This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," they said. "After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together." The couple have four children together between the ages of 14 and 21. A spokeswoman for Shriver said she would have no comment, the Times reported. After Schwarzenegger and Shriver married in 1986, they became one of America's most famous couples. He was one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors and she was a network news anchor and a member of the Kennedy family, America's storied Democratic political dynasty. Shortly before the 2003 gubernatorial election that catapulted the former actor to political office, however, the Los Angeles Times ran a series of stories in which 16 women accused him of sexually harassing and humiliating them over a 30-year period in incidents that occurred on movie sets, at gymnasiums and elsewhere. One of the women said that when she worked with Schwarzenegger on a movie, he pulled up her shirt to expose her breasts and took a picture, and groped her on two other occasions. Rhonda Miller filed a lawsuit saying Schwarzenegger and his campaign staff tried to discredit her by spreading false information about her. Schwarzenegger said he knew nothing about Miller's allegations that his campaign spread false information about her and said the timing of the complaints of the 16 women were "rather odd," given that no one had filed a complaint against him in the 35 years that he had lived in the United States. Schwarzenegger issued a general apology for "behaving badly sometimes" but said many of the allegations were not true "because that's not my behavior." Schwarzenegger, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Austria who gained fame as the youngest winner of the Mr. Universe bodybuilding contest, served as governor until January. He has been busy in recent months reviving his acting career and signing movie deals -- including a project to do another installment of his "Terminator" series.

Was he really that bad? I thought he was extremely popular during his first year and there wasn´t really much that he could do later on. I´m not a fan but I thought that he was comparatively progressive and open minded for a Republican ( his stance on gays, the environment and alternative energies were not what you´d expect from a Republican). So, where did he go wrong? I mean, he inherited a lot of debt from Davis, right? Can´t really put the blame on him only.
Any Californian orgers who could enlighten me a bit? Supa and Suprman maybe? Thanks in advance. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yeah. It's very stupid to trust your beloved one isn't it? And when you ask you believe the denials. I could not imagine that a person who claimed to love me would lie to me. A relationship is built on trust. And I couldn't think that my beloved one would decide for me in stead of letting me decide on my own life. By lying, the cheater takes away the power over their own life of the one who's getting chaeted.
I want to be the one who decides if I want to be in a relationship with someone who also wants to be romantically involved with other people. By not telling, it takes away your own decision making on your life. That is why it's so awfull. I wouldn't want to do that to the person whom I love and told that he can trust me. And I don't understand how people can breach that trust and be so disrespectfull to the ones they are in a relationship with. I just don't understand how anyone could do that. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I wouldn't say that it's "stupid" to trust...but rather that it's stupid to believe everything and anything that a loved one says regardless of what your gut/instincts tell you.
It's natural to trust the one you love. That's a big part of the whole "love" thing IMO. So is respect and honesty.
When those three things go out the window, then there really is no "love", is there?
Now I can honestly say that I "understand" why it happens. I can recognize deficiencies in both a person and a relationship that wind up souring the bond enough to lead someone to stray. Not to say that I could do it myself, but I "understand" why. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

This is a puzzle and a half. The woman worked in their household for 20 years, just retired in Jan. She was married, or divorcing or something. Maria didn't know about it til he left office which is when he told her. He wasn't the "golden boy" he was touted to be, even had folks ready to change the constitution so he could be prez. So all this may impact his career as Terminator. The woman's husband just found out about all this, he could maybe press charges (heresay). What else is around the corner?

The thing is, many people knew about the kid and Maria was left in the dark. IMHO it's not so much that he had a kid with someone else, it's more that she didn't know and was made to look like the idiot wife. Most women can handle infidelities and even outside kids if they hear it first from their husbands but if a woman is the last to know (i'm talking even the garnder knows before you) then all hell is gonna break loose. Men have egos but women have BIGGER egos. Maria just wasn't going to play that role and look stupid in front of her kids, friends, and most of all the media. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Bad timing for the Los Angeles Times, which tried in vain years ago to dig up enough pre-election dirt to stop Arnold from becoming Governor of California. $60 billion in statewide red ink later, the Times finally got him--but he's newly retired from politics.
