and video games are not a waste of time... rolleyes

how in the heck does one have an opinion on something that

a) they've never tried, and

b) is based on other ppl's problems

If so many couples are in trouble, it's not [necessarily] b/c of the gaming

~ if only one person is playing, maybe they play so much b/c s/he has no real social skills and can't communicate with their spouse/partner --- or, does not want to (and rather than deal with break-up drama, they immerse themselves in games/fantasy worlds)

if it is b/c of the gaming, it's like other addictions.... the gamer will have to want/recognize a need for help before they'll go for it/for it to be effective.

You should try my suggestion about GTAIV/TLAD/BoGT. Makes playing it even more fun.

Too bad my long reply got lost. Anyway, in a nutshell.....I DID play the missions in chronological order, more or less. I mean, there is a certain chronology when it comes to the missions, but it is not a must, i.e. there can be slight differences in the order, and you´re right, it is more fun and makes more sense to play all three games and play the missions in their right chronological order.

My problem with the storyline or the plotholes in it regarding the diamonds is this.......Luis bumps into that homeless guy in Meadow Park and the homeless guy finds the diamonds, and they also mention him on Weazel News, he moves to Vice City and opens a gun shop and a liquor store. Fine.

But.....how did those diamonds end up in Meadow Park, in a trash can, if Bulgarin´s guys dropped them in the dump truck? Why are they in a trash can in the park? Did Luis still have some diamonds on him and is that why that one mission is called "Ladies Half Price" ? Did they only give half of the diamonds to Niko and Packie when they traded them for Gracie?

Or did the homeless guy just find them because Luis bumped into him and he then found them because they fell out of the trash can? And if so, how did they get into that trash can in Meadow Park when the dump truck would normally drop the trash (and the diamonds in the trash) at the dump? Why would they fill the trash cans in Meadow Park with trash? Doesn´t make sense, does it?

Thanks anyway for breaking down the whole storyline one more time. Even though I have played all three games I am sure I could never really sum up the whole storyline as thoroughly as you did above. Good work!

So....could you probably please explain to me how those diamonds ended up in the park? And didn´t Weazel News say that the bum found them in the dump, not in the park?

I´m a bit confused. lol

I´m a bit confused. lol

Remember, Rockstar didn't make all three games at the same time, so there's going to be some continuity errors and retconning. The Jim Fitzgerald that Niko kills in GTAIV's 'No Way on the Subway' looks a lot different than than the Jim from TLAD. And when exactly did Elizabeta's missions for Johnny take place if she was busted soon after GTAIV's 'Have a Heart'?

Speaking of errors, in Vice City's "Boomshine Saigon" cutscene, Phil blows off his right arm. But in GTA III, he's missing his left.

Some of these are explained in more detail at http://www.grandtheftwiki.com

The GTA game with the hardest missions is definitely Vice City Stories(also the saddest), followed by San Andreas.

Nowhere near as much as I used to.

I have a Wii... actually want to get an Xbox360 though.

Favorite game of all time? Shenmue (on the Dreamcast) & Shenmue II (DC & original Xbox). You can't fuck with those games. If/When Sega announced Shenmue 3, I'll buy whatever system they announce it for, THAT DAY. lol. When I was a kid, I had a Sega Megadrive (aka Genesis), and I spent hours on the original Sonic games and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Streets of Rage II was another favorite, and Toejam & Earl. I also love the Zelda series, Link To The Past on the SNES is my favorite. I've never been able to get into the 3D Zelda games though, but I'd like to. The most recent game I LOVED was Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii.

I don't really play anymore because I don't have the time or inclination. When my friends come over sometimes we'll play Wii Sports and stuff like that.

I never was much into them anyway. I played an Atari a little bit back in the day and that's only because it was there for the four of us. It wasn't mine and it was just simply something to do if I was extremely bored. The last video games I played was Solitaire and Free Cell on the computer years ago before we got internet at work. lol

No I don't and never have.

I know many couples who's marriages and relationships are on the rocks because of excessive gaming. My closest friend is on the brink of separation because her husband can't stop and her oldest kid is the same.

I don't understand why anyone would want to spend hours a day playing this crap. It's a complete waste of time. People should be talking, reading, playing with their kids, doing something around the house, having sex rather than wasting precious time on gaming. Just my opinion, but I've seen how damaging it can be.

[Edited 5/17/11 9:56am]

Your reasoning is bullshit.

I know lots of people whose marriages and relationships are on the rocks because of alcoholism. That doesn't mean every person who enjoys a drink is "wasting their precious time."

If, for example, this was a thread about favorite beers, I wouldn't come in here pissing all over everyone who enjoys beer just because there are people around who abuse or have a problem with alcohol.

So...

Exactly.

I've seen many more realtionships sunk due to drinking, drugs, cheating, whatever than sunk due to videogames.

Let's see...some systems I have owned over the millenia, and some of my fave games for each...

Some generic Pong game that came with a light gun - Ummm...Pong.

Atari VCS - Space Invaders, Pitfall!, Freeway, Stampede, Raiders Of the Lost Ark, Ms. Pac-Man, and I may be one of the few people who actually kinda liked ET and Pac-Man

Coleco ADAM (it played Colecovision games, much to the annoyance of my father *heh*) - Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom, Mr. Do!, and Space Fury.

Commodore 64 - OMG...where to begin? Jumpman, just about anything Infocom that I could find

Sega Master System - Double Dragon, Golvellius: Valley of Doom (Zelda knock-off that IMO was better than Zelda)

NES - Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, the Wizardry games

Sega Genesis - Sonic 2, Shining Force, SONIC SPINBALL!!!

Sega 32X - Doom (the only game I got for it before my cat knocked it off the tv and it never worked again sad )

Panasonic 3DO - Road Rash, Super Street Fighter, Wing Commander III, Samurai Shodown, Myst, Quarantine (gotta love a game where one of your missions is to destry all the portapotties biggrin )

Playstation - Final Fantasy 7&8, Beyond the Beyond, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy Tactics (digital crack, I tell ya!)

I'm a PC gamer these days. Love games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Dragon Age. Finally got Fallout New Vegas, and as soon as I upgrade my system I'll be playing it smile

.

I try to. but most games I just do not get into. I got Dragon Age II and I got through the first chapter and was like 'MEH.' The last game I played all the way through was "Red Dead Redemption" (a good game but short and for the most part too easy)

I have almost no interest in 'Mass Effect 3' I might get 'LA Noire.' The only game I can think of that I will get for sure is "Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim."

I prefer puzzle solving games and things like that. But back in the old Sega days I played the shit outta games like Earth Worm Jim, Sonic, ToeJam and Earl then with Playstation games like Medieval and especially OddWorld - I remember playing that game for like 6 hours straight for many nights in a row.

I can also remember playing old Atari games like Joust.

oh! speaking of xboxes!

there was a story of G4's (a cable channel) that said that the new firmware update will brick some of the earliest xbox360s. but that MS has decided that they would replace them with new systems. So if this true, and if you or someone you know has an OLD 360 it might be worth it to hook it up to Xbox live and get the update (I do not think you have any choice) and it brick it and get a new one.

Never too old for video games. My mom revealed to me recently she played a lot of arcade games when she was pregnant with me, and I have enjoyed them a lot since I was a kid, mostly NES and SNES ones. I just got a PS3 for the MJ game and cause we've been wanting it anyways for quite awhile, other games I enjoy on it are the Scott Pilgrim one and Little Big Planet.
