We watched Hall Pass with Owen Wilson last night. I was in the mood for something funny and this didn't tickle my funny bone. I'd give it 2 star and I am being generous with that.

2.8/5 I liked it, but I think if it hadn't of been for the issue she was carrying around on her shoulders I wouldn't have felt anything for this movie. I could have kicked the husband in the shins for what he did after she finally got rid of the guilt. There were holes like the kid's great love for her I wouldn't have known if somebody in the movie did keep saying he loved her over & over again cause I didn't see evidence of it.

Biutiful

4/5 half way thru this movie I thought I was going to have to watch it a second time because I was so confused about what was going on I just knew I had missed somthing in the subtitles, too much was going on and nothing seemed to connect but by the end of the movie things became crytal clear and I found it very thought worthy.

Out of the Blue Poster
3/5 slow but sad and I could relate to the shock when something along those lines happened here. the man who played david gray was completely believable.

Excellent flick! nod

I really wanted to like it... especially since I'm a 70's Spielberg nut and a LOST fan.... but it just didn't seem to do anything new at it's core or exceptionally re-imagined for me, and those old movies and the show were all about something new with the old being re-imagined.

I guess to me it felt like a Kareoke version of classic pop song.

Here's my 10 second tribute to 70's Spielberg: http://www.vimeo.com/24228710

lol

Well...he is getting older and mellow - much like Prince - so to me this was a "nostalgia" movie.

If you take "E.T." , "The Goonies", and "Aliens" ...mash 'em up with marshmallow fluff...you get "Super 8".

Okay, against my better judgment, I saw this movie today, and I can honestly say that it was three hours and $10.50 I won't be getting back. doh! sigh I didn't see the second movie, but I heard it sucked so bad people were rioting outside of theaters demanding their money back. Apparently this was better than the second movie, but that's not saying much.

After an initial sequence interspersing old footage of President John F. Kennedy and the Apollo 11 space mission to the moon, which...(SPOILER ALERT)....was a mission to discover an alien ship which crash landed on the moon that just happened to a be a spaceship from Cybertron, the first shot we see in the present day happens to be the ass of the Victoria's Secret model who was hired to repleace Megan Fox.

And while I admit that she's quite easy on the eyes drool excited and I'd like to do some really nasty sexual stuff to her boff , her acting skills in this movie made Megan Fox look like Meryl Streep in comparison. There are some other silly plot lines involving how the Decepticons are reducing Chicago to rubble and rip out the middle of a tall building with the "heroes" still inside, yet it dosen't collapse and leans like the leaning tower of Pisa. If you like midless explosions and CGI up the wazoo, you'll probably enjoy this as a popcorn movie popcorn , but otherwise I'd wait and spend my money on something else. 1-1/2 stars

I think Spielberg puts in the effort on his own movies. The first 20 minutes of War of the Worlds was furious. With stuff like this it's very much JJ Abrams: the characters and their emotional moments were exactly as it is on LOST... historical moments in their life shown that shape their characters, the crazy action sound effects get faded down (Speilberg doesn't do that), the music comes up, they stare at each other, maybe hold hands out to each other. I think he's been busy with his two movies opening soon.

Certainly it was fun to go see. But I think the first 20-30 minutes of War of the Worlds rules it. And I was watching Sugarland Express (free HD on Demand) the night before. That little movie contains everything that I find great about Spielberg, and contains all the stuff he uses in his good fantastic genre movies that followed. JJ Abrams could never make a Sugarland Express. But I enjoy the bombastic grandness of "Star Trek".

What's your opinion of the new star wars movies?

As for the new Star Wars films... sigh disbelief

It was like waiting all your adult life for a steak dinner at fancy restaurant that you remember enjoying as a child, ...so you finally get to go back, sit down and take the first bite, and it tastes like Burger King.

So then you go back two more times, hoping that it'll get better or as good as it was from your childhood, and it still tastes like Burger King.

sigh

First let me say that I put this movie on our Netflix queue without seeing a trailer. Just on the "poster" and brief description and thought it was going to be one of those dumb "we all got the same text on our phone now everyone is dying off one by one" flicks. lol

Turned out to be quite conceptual and creative and not a dumb horror (not horror at all actually) after all. I kept telling Ron "that's theater!" on several scenes and turned out to be based on a play.

It was actually quite good. faint

I might even recommend this to sexton. boxed

The reason I thought he might was mostly because I went into it thinking it was gonna be a crappy horror like I'm always posting about and turned out to be all kinds of conceptual (which I think he likes hmmm). Especially in their depiction of cyberspace.

We watched "True Grit" the other night - the new one, not the good one.

It wasn't as bad as "The Dilemma" but it wasn't very good. The original was far, far better.

Hint to every actor in the world: Do not try to reprise a John Wayne role. You cannot do it. If Jeff Bridges can't do it, no one can. So don't even try.

Super 8 2/5 - The beginning was interesting, exciting train wreck, I kept thinking the little director was Peter Jackson, the early years, of course he grew up in NZ not Ohio, so I guess not. The little girl was a very pretty, didn’t know she was Dakota Fannings sister, she seems to have a bright future in Hollywood. Anyway, about halfway through I was utterly bored and couldn’t wait for it to be over, mass destruction just for the stake of mass destruction never sits well with me especially dealing with cities/town and by the end I was thinking, I’m glad JJ got that out of his system so he can get to work on ST XII. Of course right now I’m not feeling so hopeful about it, but it’s an even numbered one. sigh idk we'll see. The next CGI spectacle I’m looking forward to is The Immortals. :fingerscrossed:

The Tree Of Life (2011) - All our lives and experiences are tiny strands in the ever expanding fabric of nature. star star star star

Beautifully shot and wonderfully acted, but how does it all come together? I know how it's supposed to come together, but I didn't see it upon my first viewing. Maybe after a second time, it will become clearer and I can add that extra star to my rating that would make it perfect.

2010. Solid aussie sea horror flick

4/5. 88 minutes. Short and to the point. Way better than "Open Water" (whick was ok, nonetheless)

the first part of the film kept me laughing with those aussie accents (falloff) and the rest of the film scared the crap outta me. The movie includes some of the BEST great white shark footage I've ever seen...

recommended, specially in July / August... lol
