Update: NBC Rejects Wonder Woman Reboot

May 13, 2011

Despite having the most buzz of any pilot this season, the David E. Kelley Wonder Woman reboot failed to score a pickup. The news comes after lackluster buzz and a network screening that went poorly.

The drama, produced by Warner Bros. TV, is a reinvention of the iconic DC comic in which Wonder Woman (Adrianne Palicki) is a vigilante crime-fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive trying to balance all the elements of her extraordinary life.

Joining Palicki is Elizabeth Hurley, Tracie Thoms and Cary Elwes. Jeff Reiner (The Event) directed the pilot.

Thoms, who would have played Wonder Woman/Diana Prince's best friend Etta, voiced her disappoinment on Twitter, saying, "I am very sad that NBC passed on Wonder Woman. But that just goes to show you: There is no such thing as a "sure thing" in this biz."

...And who says prayer doesn't work? worship

I'm happy this won't go forward as a stain on the Wonder Woman legacy, but I think I'm much happier it won't go forward as a stain on Tracie Thoms' career.

I'm positive it stunk.

Funny thing is, all of a sudden I want to see that pilot now more than I ever have. smile

There was a Captain America movie in the 80s that totally sucked. Cap had fake rubber ears!

clapping Good now if only the person who had the balls and authority to do this in television will only go to Hollywood and do the same thing to all these damn movie remakes.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

falloff I think Dlisted gave the best writeup of this news.

After NBC singed millions of childhoods when they debuted the new Wonder Woman costume that looked like something you'd pull out of a red dot discount bin the day after Halloween at a pop-up mini-mall costume store that changes back into an abandoned space in November, they have decided to not put that shit on TV screens. After all the energy we spent dropping bitch-laced bombs at this mess, NBC is denying us the right to make fun of the costume every single week! It's like we stretched out our cunt muscles for nothing. I could've spent that time perfecting the Fleshlight attachment for my blow dryer.

Entertainment Weekly said that test audiences weren't really into David E. Kelley's idea of Wonder Woman as a powerful CEO who crime fights at night and has real lady problems. Just picture Wonder Woman crying into a bowl of raw cookie dough as Vonda Shepard sings a torch song. NBC also had their doubts about the costume. When the Internet ripped it into a million pieces, the costume department tried to fix it, but it wasn't enough.

My feelings about this news are separating like the titty sacks on Adrianne Palick's chest. Part of me is sad about this, because the Wonder Woman reboot had all the makings of a gorgeous disaster that would fill the "so shitty, it's pretty" void left by Spy Girls. But the other part of me is happy about this, because it would've hurt my soul every week to see Wonder Woman resemble a third-tier Craigslist stripper who threw together a busted WW costume to wear to a nerdboy's birthday party in his parent's unattached garage.

Corporate exec by day, vigilante crime fighter by night? That's not what WW is supposed to be about. Thank goodness they shelved this hot mess. Joss Whedon must be happy.

This is what happens when you have non-creative folks involved who don't respect the source material. I bet this could have worked if this series was based on the awesome George Perez stories, and used the Greek mythology angle. WW is supposed to be mythic and godlike, like Superman. Not some vigilante crime fighter.

I hate the term "REBOOT" now. Why is this being called a reboot anyway.

Nobody will ever be able to replace Lynda Carter. She is Wonder Woman. Either bring Lynda back as Wonder Grandma or leave the show alone. lol

Yeah, it's not a reboot. But journalists rarely even bother to try to get comics-related things correct, it seems.

batman I paid for the justice league satellite and for the yearly up keep to run it. You think Superman could chip in and pay for some pizza every once in awhile.
