From heavyweight champ to lightweight: boxing legend Mike Tyson shows off MASSIVE weight loss at "Hangover 2" premiere

Bit of a lightweight: Mike Tyson, 44, shows off slim new figure five years after leaving boxing for acting

By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 12:49 AM on 21st May 2011

It has been five years since he hung up his boxing gloves.

And it appears that being out of the ring has had a noticeable effect on Mike Tyson’s physique.

The 44-year-old showed off his slim figure as he arrived at the film premiere of Hangover II in Los Angeles on Thursday.

[img:$uid]http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/05/20/article-0-05BD55E00000044D-185_224x423.jpg[/img:$uid]

Tyson, 25 years ago, at 20, when he defeated Trevor Berbick to become youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history

The former heavyweight champion once weighed more than 17 stone.

He has been taking part with his wife, dancer Lakiha Spicer, in the Argentinian version of Dancing with the Stars – which would certainly account for some of his dramatic weight loss.

The former heavyweight boxer looked like he was clearly enjoying himself as he spun his wife Lakiha Spicer around the dance floor.

And he had clearly been looking forward to the show, tweeting before his appearance: 'My wife & I are in Argentina. I'm on Argentina's version of Dancing w/ the Stars tonight.'

According to Fox News, Tyson will be joined by 30 other celebrities on the show, called Bailando 2011.

His appearance came a year after after he admitted that he is struggling financially.

He said on daytime talkshow The View: 'I'm totally destitute and broke. But I have an awesome life, I have an awesome wife who cares about me.

'I'm totally broke. I had a lot of fun. It just happened.'

He added: 'I don't deserve to have the wife that I have; I don't deserve the kids that I have, but I do, and I'm very grateful.'

I guess your head is the last to lose the lbs....damn.

I am glad that Mike seems to occupy himself today. I was afraid that once he couldn't box anymore, he would have a meltdown.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I thought the opposite, I think had he stayed in boxing another year he would've had a meltdown. He seems to really be a changed man now.

Interesting....

To me, boxing kept him focused on training for matches....at that time, he was a lost soul and at least he could channel his energy towards training. I thought he would jump off the deep end once that focus was taken away.

Mike has charisma and could be a very influencial personality, if he choses to. Time will tell.

I live in Bangkok, and am half Thai.

I posted an extensive blog about how I found the trailer offensive, and cringe at the thought of what might be depicted in this crass film.

Mike does NOT look well to me in these pics. I know he had become really overweight and needed to lose SOME weight, but this looks to me like he either lost it too fast, or is otherwise not well.

Regardless, I HOPE he's well, and wish him happiness.

I agree. I didn't wanna say anything but something's not right with this. But I do wish him well.

I understand where you're coming from. Often times, people just want to say bad things about people for the sake of being mean. I understand that's not your (or my) intention.

But THIS wasn't a good look for him either:

But I think he looked great in his 2008 documentary "Tyson". Nevertheless, I wish him well.

Sure wasn't. No I know what it may sound like but of course maybe we just don't understand how weight plummets like that. So I'm gonna assume he's doing great now. biggrin

Plus, as a celebrity; I can only imagine it must be a nightmare having people take pictures of you all the time, even on days when you may not be feeling your best. Then that picture gets spread all around and talked about. Hopefully, these were just a few of Mike's "bad days" (...like we all have).

Right. And that documentary was great. Big Tyson fan here, he was my hero when I was a teenager. Iron Mike is a very tragic figure and I´m happy that he seems to have found at least some happiness at last. And it´s nice to see that he´s dropped that weight and seems to be in a good relationship. Also nice to see that he´s picked up his old hobby again. I watched that TV show about him breeding pigeons and I loved that show, it focused on facets of him that are rarely shown in the media.

taking on tyson or something. It wasn't a great show, but it WAS great to see Tyson up to something CONstructive rather than DEstructive. He also seems to be avoiding people who aren't out to fleece him.

It seems his wife is on his side and I'm happy for the dude...he deserves it.

It's refreshing to see that because for years I thought he'd be one of those sad tragic stories. Glad he's turning it all around but I was worried for a minute.

nod Exactly I agree. It's always good to see someone who was once on top to turn their life around for the better when at one time they were headed for self destruction. I'm happy for him and his family. I hope he continues to do well. He posts a lot of positive comments on FB too. I think he's finally at peace at who he is, who he surrounds himself with and knows who's really in his corner. I wish him all the best of luck going forward. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It's been a pretty good year for Mike - he's also getting inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June. It's always one of the biggest boxing gatherings for boxing greats and boxing fans...

The 2011 Boxing Hall of Fame class

CANASTOTA, N.Y. (AP)—A look at the 12 people to be inducted June 12, 2011 into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum:

MIKE TYSON—Born Michael Gerald Tyson on June 30, 1966, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A standout amateur, Tyson was 1984 National Golden Gloves champion. Following a controversial loss to Henry Tillman at the 1984 Olympic trials, he turned pro in 1985. Behind his trademark peek-a-boo defense, quick hand speed and swarming combination punching, Tyson scored 19 straight knockouts. After going the 10-round limit in consecutive fights with James “Quick” Tillis and Mitch Green, Tyson had six more knockouts in a row before stopping WBC champion Trevor Berbick in the second round in 1986 to become the youngest heavyweight champion in history at age 20. He added the WBA title with a 12-round decision over James Smith in 1987 and unified the titles later in the year with a 12-round victory over IBF champion Tony Tucker. Tyson defended the unified titles six times in victories over Larry Holmes, Tony Tubbs, Frank Bruno and Carl Williams, then stopped Michael Spinks in 91 seconds to earn universal recognition as champion in 1988. Two years later, Tyson lost the title to James “Buster” Douglas, then rebounded with four wins, two against Donovan “Razor” Ruddock. A proposed title fight in 1991 with Evander Holyfield was postponed because of a rib injury. Tyson reclaimed the WBC and WBA titles in 1996 by knocking out Bruno in three rounds and Bruce Seldon in the first round. That same year he lost the WBA belt to Holyfield in 11 rounds and was disqualified in the 1997 rematch after biting both of Holyfield’s ears. From 1999-2001 Tyson fought six times, beating Frans Botha in five rounds, Lou Savarese in one, and Brian Nielsen in seven. In 2002, Tyson suffered an eighth-round knockout in an unsuccessful title bid against Lennox Lewis and retired in 2005 with a 50-6-2 record with 44 knockouts.
