there are some great moments. but compared to empire and jedi, look at how wooden and lifeless the characters and performances seem... same problem i had with the stupid prequels. i just really do not think lucas is a good director. aside from being exposition for emp/jedi, i relaly dont like new hope much.

I feel you, but for me, the original trilogy is flawless, I only have some minor issues with Jedi (the second act is way tooooo slow), but that's all...

jedi is def a bit flawed. that one grabs me a lot more though.

I think Return of the Jedi is actually the worst movie of ALL SIX for my tastes. It's so bad for me, that I get depressed at just the tone of the reverb on the soundtrack album (such a different cold tone conservative tone compared to the soundtracks of the first two). Vader's voice sounds horrible, and even his helmut looks ultra plastic. None of the actors are playing their characters with any kind of conviction, except for Mark Hamill, but unfortunately Luke is written into an unappealing uninteresting dead end bore. The entire storyline is so simplistic and cheesy for me, full of horrible details. It seems to be a antithetical to everything that made Star Wars cool. And what made Star Wars cool was that it was so light years beyond disney, cartoons, or any television/cinematic scifi at the time in terms of textures and referencing elements in real life. Return of the Jedi just sunk to a gutter in imaginative concept and went backwards to that old school pre- Star Wars vibe. I was reading all the novels and comic adaptations as well back then in grade school. And my friends seemed to all agree on the bad points of the third movie.

TWILIGHT.

totally agree. i saw the first movie and couldnt understand why everyone loved it. thought i had just missed out on reading it, so i tried to read it and couldnt finish it. then like an idiot i saw the second movie. halfway through, i just got so bored i left.

i really do not understand how those are popular. they dont work on any level except seeing a hot shirtless guy for me.

All things Twilight, are incredibly overrated - the books, the movies...

Last year I kept hearing about the books so much that I got excited and went and bought the first one. I started it and made it about 15 pages in before I gave up on it because it was boring to me, and I've still never bothered to read it. I was so disappointed because I kept hearing so much about them and how great they were.

I've heard so much about Annie Hall....finally watched it the other night. Very disappointed. Out of 10 stars I'd give it a 3.5.

I really wanted to like it too, but the comedy was just too dated.

I don't like Woody Allen whatsoever and think all his movies are snorefests. bored Plus he creeps me out. confused

The Exorcist.

I think that's the most overrated movie of all time.

Oh no! Have you seen horror movies before The Exorcist? And then after... it was pioneering. And SERIOUS.

Agreed. But you had to be there. It's not as scary when I watch it now, but back then I didn't sleep for a week. People were fainting in the theater. Groundbreaking horror film.

from what's been mentioned here so far:

I totally agree Up was over-rated and that the first 20 minutes were by far and away the best part of the movie. But for myself, I would still stop short of calling it disappointing. I thought it was good, not great.

Black Swan was same - good but not great.

Lost in Tranlsation was a total bore. Didn't understand why it was so highly rated. I would actually stop just short of saying it made me want to hang myself.

Refused to see Dances With Smurfs and never will.

My contributions are Inception. I so very rarely go to the movies and thought this was supposed to be some sort of mind bending brilliant movie. My God - 275 gun battles later and I was falling asleep. I was SO happy when Southpark parodied that mess and poked fun at it for the very same reasons I hated it.

And I'll throw in The Hangover for good measure although some of us just recently talked about it. Almost everyone I knew saw that movie and thought it was one of the funniest things they had ever seen. Don't think i laughed once.

I agree that Black Swan and Up may be slightly [WAY] overrated. thumbs up!

I love Lost In Translation. If you hated it then I definitely would NOT recommend Sofia Coppola's latest film Somewhere which to me was very similar (but I didn't like it as much).

Avatar is only worth seeing in 3D on an IMAX screen for the effects. Beyond that, it was very mediocre.

I thought Inception was fine for an action movie. thumbs up!

I've never seen The Hangover and never will. I don't like those type of movies.

nod to all of the red parts. cool

"Black Swan" is a b-movie horror homage to stuff from the 70's like Dario Argento... but it was NOTHING new! It amazes me that it got so much hype and became his most successful movie. He could have made that with his eyes closed. By the book horror.

WORD!!

what made jedi "bad" is and stil is the fucking ewoks!! them furry bastards taking down stormtroopers? GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!

but what makes jedi cool still is the emperor ..so many classic lines

"take ur weapaon strike me down with all of your hate and ur journey 2 the dark side will be complete!"

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Stars Wars - Quit watching those after the first three (Episodes 4 - 6, how screwed up it that?)

Lord of Rings - Never saw any of them

Harry Potter sequels - Never saw any of them

Just about every thing nominated 4 Oscars the last 20 years. - Probably haven't seen three of them

Also, "The Expendables" was the biggest let-down EVER.

With a cast like that, it HAD to be AWESOME.

BUT IT STANK TO HIGH HEAVEN.

Yeah...I think there was more botox, silicone, and lip injections in that movie than all the Kardashians and Pam Anderson put together. lol

sigh

it was made for the teen/tween girl set, but ended up appealing to all [female] age groups lol

I loved the books, and the movies - can't wait for the next 2 (they split the last book into 2 movies.. like Harry Potter) biggrin

I also loved Avatar, LOTR (Lord of the Rings -- I have all extended versions on DVD), The Hangover, The Expendables, Star Wars (even tho I'm a Trekkie), Inception, all Harry Potter (haven't had time to read the books yet)

And yeah, I hated all the others you mentioned (that I've seen). You couldn't keep me awake after the first LOTR and Avatar...James Cameron should've put a bit of the budget aside to buy himself a story. neutral

In all fairness, Twilight doesn't appeal only to lonely female overeaters. There's a lot of fat "bi" goth (cause it's a way to get away with wearing makeup) boys that dress up and go to those movies too. nod
