Clifton Powell To Spike Lee - "I'll Beat Yo' Punk Ass!"

I wish he elaborated more on what exactly Spike does that pisses him off besides have people pay for their own flights to audition for him and keep them waiting. And, he also said he had an issue with Tyler's pay rates, but then turned right around and said he didn't really know what they were because he never worked for him. WTF?! How do you have a problem with something you're not familiar with?
He just needs to sit his ass down somewhere and continue to star in bullshit direct-to-DVD movies!

Uh...who?
First, how can I take seriously a guy who says he 1) has auditioned several times for Lee projects yet "never (wants) to work for him"; and 2) has a problem with Perry's pay rates yet admittedly doesn't know Perry's pay rates?
As to his comments about the linchpin of this whole "debate" -- the art -- he essentially agrees with Spike when he says (in langauge a whole lot more direct and indicting that Spike's, by the way) that some of Perry's stuff is "niggerish and buffoonish." And he's absolutely correct that there's a marked limitation to the diversity of Black narrative content in Hollywood. So I ask: Why would one not take issue with a writer/director who, in his newfound position of power, chooses not to expand that diversity, but rather panders to arguably the worst side of its current limitation? It's that perpetual failure -- not Spike's being "a hater" -- that renders things ever unchanged and keeps guys like this on the C List. [Edited 5/12/11 7:48am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Tyler is KNOWN 4 less than scale pay rates. That is one of the reasons he was sued a few years ago.

I love Cliff though, as much as he's wasting his talent on these plays/str8-to-DVD gigs, the man is actually VERY talented and he has maintained a longevity that many of his peers don't enjoy, unfortunately.
But that gave me a hearty laugh, he meant that shit too

How come when Tyler Perry does his movies it's "[N word snip - luv4u] and buffoonish" but people like Charles Grodin and Steve Martin and Dick van Dyke did similar slapstick shit?
I don't necessarily see a difference between movies like Madea's crap, "Beethoven", or like half of Martin's repertoire.

I cannot help but to notice that most of you have a personal problem when a black man that is very 'hood like Clifton Powell dares to have negative criticism of Spike Lee.
Interesting. | |

They don't get stereotyped when they do this type of work. Black folks do.

He's actually a very good character actor and I've seen him in lots of productions other than those plays.
Seems like everybody's using the smack talking trend to create a buzz these days. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
