Yup, they're one and the same. Frangipani is the common name for plumeria.
Yeah, they make leis out of them. When I was in Hawai'i last week, they were everywhere.  They just made the air thick with perfume...
Wish I could have a plumeria tree growing in my backyard. 
yeah! and an avocado tree pair, and a mango tree, and a pineapple tree and a papaya tree…
