Tarantino's Next: Black Western "Django Unchained" CONFIRMED AND UPDATED
Quentin Tarantino has handed in the final draft of his spaghetti western script Django Unchained to Weinstein Co., his agency WME confirms. According to Tarantino Archives, the title Django Unchained pays homage to both the Sergio Corbucci original Django, not to mention Takashi Miike’s Sukiyaki Western Django, which features Tarantino (see clips for both below). UPDATE: Another long-rumored inspiration, once optioned by Miramax, was Elmore Leonard’s 40 Lashes Less One.

This guy can come up with a concept like none other , although he's starting to suck the revenge theme dry. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Another excuse to use the word 'nigger' on camera. Just knew he'd find a way. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Oooo, I'm telling my son. He's a big Tarantino fan, though I'm not sure about the western perspective.

.....No he doesn't, he just watches and poorly imitates foreign cinema, particularly that of Korean origin. Check director Park Chan-Wook or Kim Ji-Woon to see. You will also find movies that piss all over Tarantino's films by said directors. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

I'd rather he remake Mario Van Peeble's POSSE! I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

Imitation in genre and cinematography? Definitely -- and to his credit, he's never cagey about it. Narrative imitation? I dunno. Seems he rations out a darned good story on his own merit, and while I think his dialogue is somewhat overrated, there's no denying he's got a style all his own, and it keeps the viewer invested over spans I think many other writer-directors couldn't pull off.
But I'm interested in Park Chan-Wook or Kim Ji-Woon. Which titles would you recommend? [Edited 5/8/11 5:35am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

That's the most unusual idea I've ever heard of for a movie in my entire life.
It's either gonna be really good, or really bad. REALLY bad.
And...Tarantino is a beast when it comes to dialogue imo. I really can't say with a straight face that he's overrated in that area. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

My favorite Tarantino flicks are ones he's written. Not directed. I don't like 'grindhouse' flicks. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Hey now, at least he listened and respected what Spike Lee had to say and changed. Unlike Tyler "Hack" Perry. Space for sale...

Uhh, some of your arguement has weight but I haven't a clue what Park or Kim have to do with Tarantino nor do I get your foreign film point. Tarantino bites from everyone, including Americans and he would be the first to point that out. Hitchcock, DePalma, blaxploitation, gallo, grindhouse and on and on and on. Just like how Prince co-opted James Brown, Joni Mitchell and Sly, Tarantino uses a blender to praise and worship the artist and films he loves. If the end result is good, I don't see the beef. Now, if he was a hack like Tyler Perry, maybe you'd have an arguement. Space for sale...

I haven't checked this thread recently and just re-read what i wrote and think it sounded a bit harsh lol Not my intent. I actually enjoy Tarantino, despite him not being top at his chosen genres and styles. You should watch Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance Trilogy which consists of Oldboy (one of the best films i have ever seen and im a tough critic!), Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (poetic killing at it's finest) and Sympathy For Mr Vengence (brutally gripping and extremely powerful viewing.). As for Kim Ji-Woon, check Bittersweet Life and The Good, The Bad And The Weird. I urge you to watch these films if you enjoy Tarantino. My only beef with it, is the fact superior films which came 1st or not, don't get the same recognition, either because it's simply foreign and subtitles put people off or because it's more artistic viewing which doesn't adapt well with an industry who caters to casuals with the aim of dumbing down.
