UNLV great and former NBA player Armen Gilliam died Tuesday night while playing pickup basketball at a Pittsburgh-area health club. He was 47.
Gilliam, the No. 2 overall pick of the Phoenix Suns in the 1987 NBA draft, collapsed of a heart attack while playing at a health club in Bridgeville, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m. ET, according to the Allegheny County coroner's office, the newspaper reported.
Gilliam, a 6-foot-9 forward, played 13 NBA seasons with six teams after leading UNLV to a 37-2 record and the Final Four in 1987.

What's the deal with all these relatively young former basketball players dropping dead??? I wonder if there's a steroid connection. |

Don't know. Mike Mitchell died during the NBA Finals and I don't even think it made the news. |

A lot of athletes have underlying heart issues, that are not known. It does not have to be steriod related. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth" |

And if it's an underlying heart issue wouldn't it surface when these guys were playing for years in the league and REALLY exerting themselves, rather than in a pickup basketball game or in their damn sleep?? It's just too many of these dudes dead in the last month or so around the same age to say it's just natural causes IMO. |

Not just at the pro level but at the college and high school level as well.
I've never known NBA players to be accused of taking steroids like in the
NFL or Major League baseball. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint |
