"Solaris" by Stanislaw Lem Am I the only one who thought that "Solaris" was a brilliant book? I liked Tarkovsky's film version of the book and all, but the book was 1.452 million times better. What an incredible book!
Who else loved it? Has anyone seen that fucking Hollywood interpretation of Lem's wonderful book? From what I understand, they tried to make it into a love story... sigh. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

Wasn't "Sphere" kind of a "Solaris" rip-off? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Well... there was a certain element of a tiny part of "Solaris" in "Sphere," but it wasn't really like "Solaris" in any real sense. By the way, everyone should read "Solaris," it is great! SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

Ice,stop pretending you're a lone voice crying in the wilderness... I read the book, but only AFTER I saw the movie.
As for the remake, it hasn't yet reached our shores but I refuse to see it. My guess is it will be the most pointless remake since Gus Van Sant's 'Psycho', which just brought tears (of rage) to my eyes. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Yeah... what the fuck were they thinking re-making "Psycho," for fuck's sake???!!! One can only assume that Tarkovsky would come back from the dead and murder each person in the cast and crew of that remake. Did you, like me, think that the book was a billion times better than even Tarkovsky's wonderful film? SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

A little more information:
Book Description Who's testing whom? When Kris Kelvin arrives at the planet Solaris to study the ocean that covers its surface, he is forced to confront a painful, hitherto unconscious memory embodied in the living physical likeness of a long-dead lover. Others examining the planet, Kelvin learns, are plagued with their own repressed and newly corporeal memories. Scientists speculate that the Solaris ocean may be a massive brain that creates these incarnate memories, its purpose in doing so unknown. The first of Lem's novels to be published in America and now considered a classic, SOLARIS raises a question: Can we truly understand the universe around us without first understanding what lies within? http://www.amazon.com/exe...58-8703005

Lem is obviously an intellectual i just wish he didnt keep telling me, i will be honest i found solaris an intellectual puzzle and my box had some pieces missing Ive still got it filed away in that OCD way of mine next to a couple of Ursula Le Guin ive not read so now that hollywood has adopted it perhaps i should re read it lol must stop repeating the the word intellectual ive obviously got a chip on my shoulder
