Brooklyn toddler dies after circumcision http://abcnews.go.com/Hea...d=13544632
New York City's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the death of 2-year-old Jamaal Coleson, Jr. following a circumcision Tuesday at Manhattan's Beth Israel Medical Center. "They gave him anesthesia, and after the circumcision he woke up he was fine," said Jabbar Coleson, Jamaal Jr.'s uncle, who lives in Jonesboro, Ga. "He asked to eat, he asked for something to drink, and then he started complaining about pain in his stomach." Jabbar said his nephew was in the outpatient ward when doctors noticed something was wrong. But four hours passed before the toddler was rushed to the emergency room, he said.
Awww, this is sad. They don't state why he was having the surgery but it was most likely cosmetic surgery. I doubt a 2 year old could have phimosis (tight foreskin that can't be retracted) because the foreksin and the glans are actually one piece until around 10 years of age when they naturally separate and the foreskin can be retracted. Even then, a dorsal slit would've solved the problem. I can't think of any other medical reason for having this done. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I doubt it was medical. Religious, more likely. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

But you're supposed to get that done when the baby is a newborn infant (after the first week of life, 8th day), at least according to Jewish law. I've never heard of circumcision being done after this time unless there is a health reason. It sounds a bit suspicious.

A friend of mine had her son circumsized right around that age (2-3) for medical reasons. They had problem after problem and finally made the tough decision to do it to end his ongoing issues.
It was heart breaking for her to watch her son go through that at such a young age. |

It has to be medical after a year... because once all the nerve endinga mature and a child is bigger its scarier for a child to go through that sort of thing.
Its better to catch a baby unawares while he is a a week old or younger than when he can squirm and kick at two. IMHO, after they are more than a month old its better to not do that to them at all especially if its a good chance he may remember the pain.

I wonder if the high doses of the anesthesia killed that poor child.
