Being a gay male I think gives me some sensitivity toward rape. I think it's ugly to suggest that it is or should be part of someone's sentence for a crime. Do we really want people to commit such acts in our name? (In our name because the State is prosecuting them and putting them in jail.)

The fact that it happens is no reason to cheer for it.

It's as if committing any crime means no further empathy or sympathy.

His actions are heinous and inexcusable no doubt. But that doesn't mean he isn't the same person he was the day before these actions took place.

He too has family.

And who was he the day before? A jealous and possessive man who contemplated killing his own daughter to get back at the mother? A man who contemplated taking a stranger's life as part of a plan to kill himself and his kid?

I understand your sensitivity to eyesofwonder's comment but your second paragraph has me stumped. Why should committing a crime such as this warrant any empathy or sympathy ? Is it ever okay to kill your baby as a means to punish someone who simply may not love you anymore?

Cases like these are unique, IMO, in that there should be NO SYMPATHY! We're not talking stealing because you're hungry, accidentally causing someone's death, or even pulling a chris brown on your girlfriend. He took this little babie's life, posted it on facebook and let the mother and the rest of the web world know why he did it. That is plain evil and evil deserves no sympathy. Whatever punishment he gets won't be punishment enough.

My comment about empathy and sympathy was in reference to people who are imprisoned in general, not this man specifically, although as I've stated, being raped is not going to be part of the sentence handed down and it shouldn't happen extrajudicially as some perverted, twisted sentencing enhancement.

Thank you for clarifying. I thought you were suggesting that he was not a monster before or after the crime and I interpreted your stance on empathy/sympathey as being in reference to him only. IMO it does no good to speak on the imprisoned in general and about what is judicially fair or not when the topic is on a specific case. We need to focus on each crime individually. Yes being raped is not going to be part of his sentence and I don't know any western judicial system that would allow it to be so however, the nature of his crime will yield its own street justice behind prison walls. What goes on in prisons among inmates is a whole other subject and worthy of its' own thread. That being said, I could give a fuck what happens to this dreg.
