I guess I've just never noticed anyone saying it. I'll have to listen closely. I lived in Texas for a while and they were probably more likely to say it down there than here in Maine. We have our own made up words...
I don't know where I picked it up - likely in Baltimore/DC as I used to live there. Everyone used to say it jokingly, it was just a thing. I dunno. lol.
I do know that I have said it to other people who have been shocked people actually said it. To me, breaking out into random, jokey colloquialisms is just part of conversation. A lot of people in the B-more area also say "warsh" and being serious about it, thus a lot of people say it jokingly too.
perhaps it is a Baltimore/DC thing then since I have spent my entire life there
Ebonics is like a 2nd language to me........not that I speak it but whenever I hear it, it sounds normal to me
looks like it made the Urban Dictionary http://www.urbandictionar...erm=skrimp

Yes ppl say "skrimp",but even worse than that is Skrallberrys-(strawberrys)& Sammiches- (sandwiches) “The only male singer who I’ve seen besides myself and who’s better than me – that is Michael Jackson.” – Frank Sinatra |

I agree with both of you 100%. Say the word correctly please.
I'm inclined to agree with you all as well. My ex used to prounounce shrimp this way and I couldn't stand it. To make matters worse he claimed that he "couldn't help it" and that it was really the way he talked that made him misprounounce the word that way. That wasn't it, he just wanted to sound ignorant so he could fit in with his other ignorant slow friends. I'm glad I'm rid of him. I need a man who's inclined to be intelligent and is big on intelligence. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

I hate it. A guy I was dating once used it when ordering.
We never went out again. He couldn't believe it when I told him why.
Gorgeous too. I can't do ignorance though.
I know what you mean! If a man I'm interested in makes a major grammatical/social error, and I clearly know he is not kidding, it just kills it for me. I can't be worried about him embarrassing me in front of family, friends or coworkers. Once, I heard a guy say, "Oh, don't touch that. It's mines." Needless to say, he was toast.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

I wouldn't be shocked if he was one of those idiots who screamed "it's a black thing!" |
