I agree with the John on the jello.
The whole suspending things in jello as if it was the pinnacle of food culinary. Sadly it is not.

So...you wouldn't want some of Mama Genesia's yummy lime Jell-O salad with cottage cheese, pineapple, 7-Up and pecans? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Ooooo, I would! My mom used to make that and it was the only way I could eat Jello when I was a kid. Jello with no additives (fruit or nuts) used to make me gag big time.

That Jell-O salad is super yummy. I can look up the recipe for it when I get home, if you like.
She also made a couple really good molded cranberry salads and ribbon salad (which has a creamy yellow layer sandwiched between clear red and green layers). The ribbon salad was always a hit at Christmas.

Not unless its customary for Mama G's guests to toss their cookies at the dinner table. And I'm pre-tty sure she'd expect me to act a proper lady.
unless....what have you told her about me? [Edited 5/4/11 7:55am]

Only that she should probably hide her bottle of vodka in the back of the freezer. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The freezer is where civilized people keep it. Try suspending it in the Jell-O.

You don't freeze Jell-O.
You can, however, put vodka in it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I know you don't freeze Jell-O Ms. Cosby. I meant, the freezer is the first place I'd look for vodka, but if she tried suspending it in her famous Jell-O salad it might be safe from my drunken paws.
Although...if ever there was a reason for eating Jell-O

They have actually done scientific research to see how much booze you can put in a Jell-O shot - and have it still gel. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Okay, here's the recipe. I was wrong about it having cottage cheese - it's cream cheese.
Party Salad
7 oz. 7-Up 4 oz. marshmallows 2 3-oz. packages cream cheese 1 3-oz. package lime jell-o 3/4 c. chopped nuts (Mom always used pecans) 1 20-oz. can crushed pineapple, undrained 1 c. heavy cream, whipped 2/3 c. mayonnaise
Combine 7-Up and marshmallows in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the marshmallows are melted. Add gelatin, stirring until dissolved. Add Hot mixture slowly to cream cheese and beat until smooth. Add pineapple and nuts. Chill until partially set. Fold in whipped cream and mayonnaise. Blend thoroughly. Pour into lightly oiled 2-qt. mold. Refrigerate until firm.
Here's another one for good measure. It's really yummy - and has things suspended in it!
Orange Sherbet Gelatin
2 3-oz. packages orange gelatin 1 c. boiling water 1 pint orange sherbet 1 11-oz. can mandarin oranges 1 c. heavy cream, whipped
Dissolve orange gelatin in boiling water. Add sherbet and mix well. When partially set, add oranges. Fold in whipped cream. Pour into oiled 1-1/2 qt. mold. Chill. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
