Legalize Online Poker Only 3 countries in the world have banned online real money Poker. Iran, North Korea, and now thanks to the actions the FBI last friday, the United States of America. This despite the fact that there is no actual federal law that outlaws online poker, which is a game of skill.
Something is wrong with this picture. That the United States of America now has something that it is as oppresive about as Iran and North Korea.
It has been estimated that legalized and taxed online poker in the US would generate $64 billion in tax revenues over 10 years (not counting the taxes on earnings of professional poker players). Instead of collecting these tax revenues, the recent developments have put many americans who make a living playing online poker out of work. This at a time when the country is trying to figure out where to cut spending and/or raise taxes to balance the budget. $64 billion
I don't personally make a living at poker, but it is a hobby that I enjoy playing in my free time. And something I have been working to improve my skills in. While many believe online poker is not illegal to begin with and the government will ultimately lose it's case against online poker sites, there is now a petition for the US government to officially legalize and tax online poker.
I urge everyone to sign it and also help spread the word. The petition can be found here.
