Home remedies...

Ok while ranting on a long thread that was deleted... I had blurry vision due to pink-eye (conjunctivitis)

it felt like I had sand in my eyes... eyes were all crusty, red and swollen when I woke up that morning... so I went to my kitchen, brewed some coffee... let it cool and spooned some in each eyeball. Did it 3 times that day, in each eye.

Yup... I poured coffee in my eyes, now today my eyes are bright and feeling great. batting eyes

Coffee is a natural anti-biotic and cleans out eye infections when your pour the coffee in your eyes.

My buddy tried this on her boxer with a teabag... tea also works and her doggies eyes are always healed the next day.

Its a natural old-school remedy... biggrin

Does anyone else have any home remedies they want to share?

My maternal grandma used Crisco as a moisturizer and she had the prettiest skin. nod

She also used pure olive oil as a hair moisturizer. Wash your hair, massage in olive oil from roots to ends, cover with a shower cap or warm towel for 5-10 minutes then wash out. Don't rinse out...wash out.

Oh and rubbing bengay on your problem areas is supposed to slim you. I've heard this from beauty pageant ladies. I don't notice any slimming effects but it feels good.

Never heard of the Ben-gay.... it is an ass/thigh-smoother? Sort of an anti-cellulite cream?

hmmm I would try that for my backfat. Back fat is sooooo not sexy.

I thought it was...Preparation H? Under the eyes, maybe? I guess anything that reduces swelling

Never heard of the coffee, but it is acidic, I bet that would kill nasty eye critters

I have heard of using Chamomile tea bags for eye infections

Yes, that is what I was told. Its supposed to shrink or slim and you're supposed to temporarily lose an inch or two.

You might be right. I get the two mixed up. Aren't they both for the reduction of swelling and discomfort?

Can you put prep H under your eyes?

Your grandmother and mine must have been neighbors! lol Only thing, my grandmama wouldn't wash out the olive oil and sometimes she had a greenish/yellowish "tint" to her hair.

Another one:

Apple Cider Vinegar as an astringent. I use this about every other day. AFter I wash my make-up off I dab a couple cotton balls in the cider vinegar and rub it all over my face. You'd be surprised at how much cosmetic residue is left after washing with a so called "total cleanser". neutral

I never would, but beauty pageant contestants are not interested in health, they want the bags to be gone! lol

I didn't mean to say you were wrong about ben gay, either, maybe both do the same thing. that just made me remember the prep H

Olive oil is great as a moisturizer... I use refined coconut oil instead.

you made me think of colds... I eat a clove of raw garlic daily when I start feeling sick, and my colds/flu never last long when I do that.

^ speaking of fighting colds

another family home remedy was to chew raw garlic and wash it down with orange juice. that was supposed to rid you of your cold within a couple days.

I hardly ever get sick.

Yes!!

I found this out the hard way when I applied some crushed garlic on zit on my face.

You can kill mold with chopped garlic also, place it on a plate by a moldy corner in the basement.

My mom did that...
