I just hate to see a catfight over something so un-catfight-worthy. sigh

The ORG somehow attracts catfights. Don't know why. lurking

Anyways, comfort @ Paisley. I feel ya, I went through that when I was in college myself.

Excuse you, but some students do NOT have much of a choice but to get student loans sometimes. Public AND Private universities have their tuition prices too damn high! disbelief And for the record, holding down a full-time job AND being a full-time student at the same time is difficult.

I'm a two-time university dropout. I'm know exactly what I'm talking about. neutral

Hell, I'd never be able to pay that back. That's one of the reasons why I never went to college. Of course I'll probably be stuck here in Mississippi for the rest of my life because of it.

Didn't you go to bussiness school? How much was your tuition at the time?

I thought college was expensive when I went(1978-82), but now it's fucking insane! What's the average, like $40k a year? I feel for these kids today.

My brother has three he'll have to put through school - yeesh! The good thing is they're six years apart.

Same thing here - I mean, back home in Belgium, everyone my age is buying houses and having babies/starting families.

Sometimes it's best not to do too much math and just go for those big things you really want in life, and trust that things will work out in the end. I bet if people knew exactly how much over the long term having a baby will cost, many people would think twice:) But then, usually the pluses far outweigh the rest:)... I guess it's something [even for planned pregnancies] that people just throw themselves into, without counting/planning every pennies.

So take a deep breath, and take it one step, one cent at a time. I know it feels like a huge sum, but no need to tackle it all at once. If you have an automatic payment system set up, you can 'forget' about it, it will take care of itself.

wink

Sending feelings of sympathy here - I can totally relate as I'm just finishing a Master's in Boston.

I don't know if this is any consolation, but I personally wish I could have taken a loan in a US bank [not allowed since I'm not a US citizen, as well as in my home country, because there, they require a proof of income sad ]

Life's tough these days... but as I tell all those around me who said I should have bought a house/apartment instead: it's better to invest in one's brains than bricks!

The best fruit are reaped in the long-term, just be patient&persistent! wink

I like that....thats an optimistic look at it. I just keep looking at all these people my age buying houses and stuff (which I dont agree or disagree with) however it's like..damn that's just too much for me right now..and it sucks!

Damn, that's so many years ago that I honestly don't fully remember. We're talking 1985 when I graduated high school at 17 and 1986 when I graduated business school at 18. I was so young I wasn't really paying much attention to it because I really wasn't very interested at the time. All I knew at the time is that I was soooooo sick of being in school and wanted to go to a school that wouldn't last too long, was cheap because I could never be able to pay for college, and a school that I hoped would get me a better paying job than McDonald's. My young dumbass actually quit the school after a few days and went to work at McDonald's and then went back when the next semester began. My mother told me...."You're grown now and you'll either go to some type of school or your ass will go to work"....She called my bluff because she knew I'd never last at a place like McDonald's and she was right. I took my ass right back to school. lol

Anyway, all I remember is I had a grant which I had to keep at least a C average in order to keep it. I also had a student loan that I was supposed to pay back once I started working. I can't even remember exactly what the payments were supposed to be because I was unemployed for about two or three years after I graduated but if I remember correctly, I think it was to be $50 a month once I found a job. I just remember my grandmother finally paying it off when she came into some money because she was worried about me. I think it was around $1500.00.

The school had promised "job placement" as one of their ways to draw in students. Well, I found out what their idea of job placement was. It was sending out resumes that we typed and if we got a response, fine, and if we didn't get a response, that was the end of it. Hell, we could have done that our damn selves. I went looking for a business job after I graduated and the story was always the same...."We need someone with experience"....well, how the hell can you get experience if nobody will give you any. That went on for about two or three years and finally I just gave up and ended up working in a convenience store for nine years until a customer, who was a friend, recommended me for an office position (secretary) at the building where she worked security. I've been at my present job now since 1999 but it's all about who you know because I'd still be in a convenience store if it wasn't for her. I've run into ex classmates from the business college over the years. One of them was working at the drive through at Krystal, another was working at the deli at K Mart. I don't recommend those business colleges to anyone. I never see any commercials for them anymore but in the mid 1980s, they had commercials all over the TV. I wonder if those type of schools even exist anymore.
