My baby girl is now 14, and I was literrally nagged by others asking when I was going to pierce her ears. I was like...go to hell...I'm not doing that to her...she can decide for herself when she is older. She is now 14 and so far she is glad I didn't pierce her ears. She actually told me that she doesn't like the ideas of piercings.

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

African American kids tend to get their ears pierced at early ages. Don't know if that's cultural or not. White folks are a wee bit protective of their little terrors..lol

I don't know about that.

I'm black, and pretty much everyone I know (barring my younger sister), didn't get their ears pierced until they were older, myself included (I think I was actually 20 or 21 when I finally got them pierced).

My daughter is 6 1/2 and has asked if she can get her ears pierced. I feel a bit uncomfortable with it to be honest - she seems too young. But a lot of girls in her class wear little earrings, and i've spoken to a few people about this and most people don't see a problem with it.

What are your thoughts?

My daughter is 11 and she is going to have her ears pierced around her 12 birthday the peer pressure thing is tricky and not just with pierced ears!!!

I think the bottom line with anything like this is first kids of 5,6,7 whatever can't actually make the decision it has to be the parent/carer. However what the right age is for this I have absolutely no idea lol

My mum took me to get my ears pierced when I was 5. I still remember the pain. - And i'm pretty good with pain!!

Well, I meant as a baby. But I think if a kid is 5 or 6 and they want something it's a good life lesson that sometimes there's pain involved with shit we want. lol

I wanted my ear pierced in the 6th/7th grade because of George Michael lol and my mom said fine, but did it with the needle and thread. Bitch. lol

I still can't believe I didn't realise George Michael was gay until the toilet incident!!!!

I need a refund on my gaydar!!!!!

I don't know if this is race specific, but practically everyone of my background got them pierced when they weren't old enough to remember including myself. When I encountered kids in elementary school or in pop culture that weren't allowed to do it, I really didn't understand why. Maybe it's more accepted to do it at a young age in countries outside the western world and that's why it happens.

My Mom had my ears pierced at the pediatricians office ( I guess that's how they did it in the old days) when I was 3 months!

I had no idea a pediatrician would pierce a babies ears, my 9 month old niece just had hers done

I have no idea if they will do it now, but they did some forty plus years ago, for me. wink
