Anyone here familiar with MIAMI?

Any Flordia Orgers here (or familiar with the area) that could suggest a nice (inexpensive) area to stay around Miami?

As some of you know, I'm looking for a quick getaway. I was just offered free airfare to Miami if I want it (how can I say NO?) so I need to find an inexpensive place that isn't in a nasty part of town.

Any suggestions?

question

What is inexpensive?

I always liked "The Kent" in SouthBeach because of it's location--it's smack dab in the middle of everything and right behind the Versace house.

About 90 to 130 bucks a night depending on season and room.

Be careful in South Beach...lots of crummy places and loud techno music all night! Just read the reviews. With that being said, I LOVE Miami and South Beach!

BAD idea!!!

Miami is not really public transportation friendly! She would need a car if she did that.

That's not EVERYWHERE on the Beach. That would be primarily on Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, and some parts of Washington Avenue. She would need to stay maybe in a small deco hotel away from those three streets.

Cause they probably got off at the wrong exit from the airport into the city.

Miami has four lanes leading to different areas of the city when you leave MIA airport, one of which is destined for Miami Beach. Unfortunately people wanting to take the road to Miami Beach get off at the downtown exit that comes right before the Beach, and that's a dangerous place where they purposely steak out waiting to carjack tourists.

I would say stay on Miami Beach, but choose a hotel NORTH of South Beach (from 22nd street on up), or Mid-Beach (that would be the 40's-50's, aka Millionaires Row) or North Miami Beach (from 60th st. on up). You will be away from the noise and the annoying crowds, but you're still walking distance from the ocean, you can eat from cheap local restaurants that have that mama made- diner- flare (from Cuban to Argentinian steak to Jewish deli to simple little bistros, sushi spots & Italian joints). The beauty of staying north is that you're an +/- $10 cab away from South Beach when you want the noise and the clubs and the crowdedness...and 10-15 minutes away by the C bus that travels straight down one street from the south (5th street) to the north (163rd street, the official end of Miami Beach) and back.

I would throw out some hotel names to you but they re-sell, renovate, and re-name properties so much in Miami that I'm sure I would give you the wrong name to a place that's been sold and re-named already lol. Maybe by the weekend I'll have more (useful) info.

Apparently there's nothing in Miami except for people who weren't born there and drugs..I've heard that somewhere.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Actually my trip is being delayed due to work "issues".

I'm probably going to Florida in mid-May...not sure yet if it'll include Miami but I would like to. nod

...well...without getting gunned down if I get off at the wrong exit of course. neutral
