With regard to the "financial" aspects of marriage...it really all depends on the individual. CLEARLY there are men AND women out there who marry for financial reasons. Whether it's the chicks chasing after pro-athletes for 18 years of "child support" to the guys finding a mail order bride to cook/clean/fuck for him in exchange for a roof over her head.

But for the most part, I think that the reality for the average couple is more complicated. Marriage definitely offers financial benefits (tax breaks, shared expenses, etc.) but more often that not the bills and financial liabilities become a BURDEN, not a benefit.

AS FOR THE MAIN THREAD TOPIC...I personally believe that prostitution offers a necessary service and society may one day learn to embrace it (as many others have throughout history).

I have never paid for sex (well, not counting my 15 years of marriage) and don't necessarily plan to start now...but I don't really demonize the act.

While this post makes me feel sorry for the obviously shitty formative experiences you've had with men, I would say that it's not wise of you to generalize men in this way. There are plenty out there (my own Boo included) who are actively engaged in their unions as help mates, best friends, and spiritual soul mates who believe in their relationship as a covenant that is a blessing and enrichment to their lives.
