Good answers, good answers.

Cape Fear was freaky. Silence of the Lambs is probably one of my favorite movies, every time I see it coming on tv I'm thrilled lol.

I love horror movies period. There's so many I like I couldn't pick just one of them.

Exorcist I - Still can't watch with the lights out

Hell Night

SAW I

Descent

The Omen - original with Gregory Peck

Rosemary's Baby

SSSSS - yes I said SSSS . Some weirdo doctor/circus owner doesn't like his daughter's new boyfriend so he turns him into a snake and it is GREE-OSS!!!! great special effects for an old flick.

Freaks - reall old flick where all these lil people (midgets) and what not with missing arms and limbs and a couple of twins with heads the size of coffee cups are offended by this wanton woman/whore so they gang up on her and um....mutilate her to say the least. Its a black n white film which adds to the creepiness.

As you can see, too many good ones to limit to a single "favorite".

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I am a huge horror fan. HUGE. That said there are scary movies and disturbing ones.

My fave scary movies:

The Birds

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Honorable mention to Val Lewton-his stuff is incredible- 3 of his films to check out are:

Cat People (the original)

Leopard Man

The Seventh Victim-1940s film about devil worshipping in Greenwich Village

Bram Stoker's Dracula

the Wolf Man

Them

Disturbing films

The hills have eyes-original

Psycho

The Gates of Hell

Night of the Living Dead (original)

Children shouldn't play with Dead Things

The Sentinel

The Omen

The Strangers

Eyes without a Face

Black Christmas

The Ring

The Changeling with George C Scott. When that ball bounces back down the stairs. Whew!

Phantasm-I still can't figure out the plot, but The Tall Man creeps me the fuck out

There are so many more. I will have to keep coming back to this thread.

"The Shining" is probably my favorite!

A movie with a similar vibe in many ways but released in 1976 is "Burnt Offerings" (the novel The Shining was published in 1977).

The Strangers

Paranormal Activity (I tried to watch it as a silly & overrated amateurish film but in fact it scared the shit out of me boxed)

Psycho (I swear I'll never sleep in a lonely, small motel)

Two of my favorites.

Others:

Resident Evil

Ghosts of Mars

Aliens

The People Under the Stairs

It's nowhere near the power and skill of The Shining, but it is definitely a serious attempt at horror. And you will be shocked by some similarities!

I love "The Shining", its my favorite Kubrick movie. I even have the yellow one sheet movie poster.

I'm curious to see "Insidious" since it is getting some favorable comments. But I don't have too much faith.

SSSS was not released theatrically, I don't think. I believe that it was an ABC tv movie. Speaking of that, I have coworkers who swear by a 70s tv movie called "Bad Ronald". It's about a teen boy who lives in the walls of his house and spies on the family that moves into it.

Also, check out Dark Night of the Scarecrow-disturbing.

I can't do creepy movies.

Get nightmares for months.

Have seen Old boy.

That movie had me. Still in my top list.

Didn't see the whole trilogy, wasn't abe to after the first episode.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Are you going for the trilogy?

I went because it is Tarantino his fave movie. Should have known.....

curious about your review

I've been reluctant to watch after finding out it was a trilogy.

Didn't know it was Tarantino's fave. Not the greatest recommendation for me.

I'll see how I like Old Boy and go from there.

I"m surprised someone hasn't remade "SSSS".

That movie was just really nightmarish for a 3rd grader. Or was it 2nd grade?

I love all things Kubrick, but The Shining takes it for me. The attention to detail and the added lore is unmatched in my eyes; the story is told in such a subtle yet full-bodied way and the acting is just what it needed to be (despite Shelley getting a lot of flack).

I have always felt King was jealous that Kubrick told the story better than he did.

I thought the movie was creepy until I read the book last year for the first time.....

GODDAMN disbelief

It took me a couple of weeks to shake the images that were instilled in my mind from that book. Steven King is a man with a VERY wild imagination, and a sick fuck too lol.....

BTW Kubrick's movies are all dark and beautifully haunting as well.

IT turned me off of Stephen King.

Tired of the constant cruelty to children.

Stephen King is one of my idols re writing so I love him. I don't think It specialized in cruelty to children, but there are some images ingrained in my head via that book like the clown in the storm drain, jesus christ. As long as I live I will never forget that.

Saw 'Old Boy.'

I won't be doing the trilogy.

Didn't like.

The obsessive revenge on both sides made it interesting.

That's a highly influential one! It's a rarity for a horror movie to come out that is so cool enough in some way that it is copied forever after.

Audition is another one of my favorites. Battle Royale, as well. Though I'm not sure Battle Royale is creepy, per se? But yeah it kinda is.
