The movie "Just Wright" was Just Wrong

Saw this movie by accident last night on HBO... disbelief Common was pretty good and convincing as a ball player, but his relationship with Queen Latifah was UNbelievable. I was not convinced at all that they had fallen in love with each other and even their kiss scenes seemed extremely awkward, like they were kissing their sister or brother. Eww. Just sayin'. Had to vent a little cuz I can't get my hour and a half back lol

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I dug the movie. Yeah you have to suspend disbelief to watch it but it was good to see the good guy win for a change.

This movie sucked. Common CANNOT act! shake

But the REALLY sad thing is that because this movie bombed Fox halted production on all its "black" films by putting them in "turn around." confused

lol Aww give Common a chance. His performance wasn't Oscar worthy but it was better than a Boris Kodjoe performance, cuz that dude definitely can't act.

lol Nope. It was several scenes when ONE of his eyes was looking over Latifah's shoulder. I was like, "WTF is this madness?!!!" eek

The problem was, Latifah's not "leading lady fine" by Hollywood standards and Common has zero personality, but has the "sexy" factor working for him but that wasn't even enough. Common can act, he just doesn't have a personality, and having swagg is half the battle.

nod certainly not well enough to carry a movie. Maybe bit parts are okay for him, but yeah he was so one dimensional in this movie

Chile when has Latifah ever been convincing as a woman in love with a man. lol Jus sayin'.

I think she needs to stick to playing Set It Off/Bringin' Down The House type rolls and Common needs to stick to playing a gangsta e.g. Smokin' Aces and Wanted.

Rappers turned actors is never a good thing unless you're LL Cool J. NOw that dude got natural skillz!!!!

Paula Patton was bomb tho. Another talent that we need to see more of. It was however unbelievable that she would just dump Common's character all because he had an injury. confused

lol Now, I don't agree with that at all. Latifah is a more than decent actress and was nominated for an Oscar for Chicago so she ain't no slouch and shouldn't be typecast cuz she's a bigger chick who happens to be a lesbian, she's cute when she cleans up and we need to see big girls get theirs too. tonk

Besides I think she did fine romantically opposite LL in that other dumb movie and in Brown Sugar with MosDef as her love interest. Plus that other movie where she was HIV+ she was married in that and gave a great performance IMO. thumbs up!

But, even more unconvincing than La as Common's love interest was the premise that the Nets would be Eastern Conference Champions. I mean, that shit was too implausible and I can't suspend belief for that long. I just kept thinking that shit would NEVER happen. disbelief

On top of THAT BS I was constantly distracted by these non-acting athletes and sports announcers. Hell, I can't stand Stuart Scott and Kenny Smith in REAL life why the fuck I wanna watch them butcher lines in a movie they say in real life all the time??? lol

come on now...Chicago? That was a musical. Who couldn't work that. Personally I thought it was overrated but I get that Hollywood was hungry to bring the stage to the big screen. Zeta-Jones won her oscar and her performance wasn't any better than Latifah's but we won't talk about that. smile I didn't see her in that movie as an HIV+ chick and will have to check it out. I will reserve referring to her skills as limited until then. geek

Your last 2 paragraphs have me rolling. falloff It's like that SCNDLS? Girl you harder than I am. The Nets could make EC champs. Anything is possible with God. Dwight Howard kind of did okay for that being his first movie or rather 1st movie with a speaking role. Um Kenny and Stuart...well....they only had like 1 sentence a piece or something. I think they mumbles "you aiight? u get them digits? " or something. I don't care for them as athletes so I wasn't checking for them as actors. lol Again....with a little more practice and experience...anything is possible with God.

Chile, it ain't THAT much prayer lol

Okay, I'ma give you Chicago, but she was also real good in Living Out Loud where her boyfriend was a dude on the DL . . . okay bad example lol

The movie i'm talking about is Life Support. I didn't realize she won so many awards for that role including a Golden Globe and SAG and was nominated for an Emmy. Makes sense cuz I think it was her best performance ever. nod

^ I will have to add that to my queue. I watched a film called "Cover" last night that was about DL dudes but it was a murder mystery and had Leon in it and Aunjanue Ellis in it. Now she's an underrated actress if you ask me.

As far as b-movie love stories go...Just Wright was ok. I'm glad to see Latifah producing films now. I think the film would have faired better if say Bill Duke directed and Malcom D. Lee wrote the screen play . It just needed a little more polishing because really, it was straight to DVD film.

In "Last Holiday" with LL Cool J, actually. She has said in interviews that she had a serious crush on him during her teens, and it's obvious in the movie.

Plus, Queen needs a good, tall leading man with great acting skills to play opposite her for romance to be convincing (like LL), and Common just wasn't it. shrug He was the absolute wrong person to put in that role. He didn't even look like a basketball player either, lol.
