What do you do to relax?

When you feel like your head is going to burst and the weight of the world is squarely on your shoulders...what do you do to forget about it all?

Music?

Books?

Church?

Alcohol?

weed ?

What is the favorite opiate of the Org masses?

Reading is always relaxing to me but I usually do that before bed. If I have something that is really bothering me or I am brain dead, I find physical activity is what helps me the most. I love to walk and so I do that if it's nice out. My dog enjoys it too biggrin Otherwise, I use my treadmill.

I also find cleaning to me is very therapeutic. If I'm mad, this is what I usually do. I don't know why but it helps me calm my nerves or relax me.

This time of the year, it's digging in the dirt. There nothing like being physically tired to help you forget your worries. Or that is what works for me biggrin

None of the above. I go for a brisk walk. I generally walk 4-6 miles every day to keep stress at a minimum.

I can't seem to get into books right now (hence my other thread prying into what other people are reading).

Cleaning is a heinous chore for me. hmph!

Now that the weather is warming, maybe I'll rediscover walking. nod

See my comment above about the gym. I usually spend an hour or two doing all sorts of machines and treadmills and such. Haven't yet hit the pool (kind'a skeeves me out).

Don't have any pets, and can't handle the extra responsibility right now (I'm a dog person anyway).

shrug ...maybe I just need better porn sites. boxed lol

I never really believe in that "endorphine rush". Even when I exercised daily, it was never a rush but I did feel good after working out.

I agree that walking out of the gym I often have a spring to my step.

Then I walk through the door at home and my shoulders tense instantenously.

* A beer (one beer no no no!)

* A long, hot bath

* Lounging in bed with some good reading material

* Music

* Going into the city and people watching

* Long drives with no destination in mind

EXACTLY! lol

I love it though. I don't know why folks on those shitty exercising commercials complain about cramps when they do regular exercise. That P90 whatever that shit is called is just as difficult. lol It's called "do it until you're sore". That's always been my motto if I was gonna do some tense exercise. lol

How about sitting in your cubicle at work on a Saturday with my MP3 player listening to music and posting on the Org for a few hours?

I saw that! And if I had any decent ideas, I'd totally have been all over that. Wherever you go, have a good trip. Hope it clears your head.

It doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I don't drive a car or take the bus (I take the bus if I'm going out of town). I walk everywhere. I hate cars. North Americans' addiction to oil is destroying our planet.

In terms of feeling an "endorphin rush," I think what you describe as a sense of well-being and feeling good after exercising is just that. An endorphin "rush" is not a rush in the same way that one gets them from smoking hash. I said that I walk 4-6 miles a day to stave off stress, but it's also to stave off depression. If I go for a couple of days without my walking, I can almost feel, tangibly, my sense of self plummeting.

Cutting out the meat and dairy products increases one's overall health and sense of well-being. It's also necessary for the planet. Start eating quinoa (pronounced keen-wah). It's loaded with protein and other nutrients. It's a real energy booster. It will actually make you feel uplifted. Use it to replace rice in your meals, as a sidedish with a stir fry, and so on.

I sew. A lot of people find sewing frustrating or daunting, but I find that the focus it requires really relaxes me. Concentrating on what I'm doing in the moment is sort of a mental vacation from everything else.

I post threads about hair on the org.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.
