Facebook and Twitter - I don't understand I'd like to read some explanations of why people use facebook and twitter. I really don't get it. Why do people post public messages informing others about what they're doing minute-to-minute? And why do people who use these media want to know this stuff about others?

I get Twitter, as it is like a time-capsule of text messaging, which is interesting. Whereas Facebook, in my opinion, is a bunch of random nothingness now, and has been since about 2007 when it expanded. Facebook for me is a sort of finder for long lost friends, remote loved ones, etc., and a neat one-stop for occasionally checking in with them/updating them on noteworthy things in life. I don't, however, understand the appeal of constant content posting/reading about even the most mundane of things (which seems to be the bread and butter of Twitter, as far as I can tell). I like Facebook for connecting with people long distance. And I'm finding it helping with compiling helpful pages on a variety of subjects.
I don't get Twitter at all, but I think it got overcelebratized!

I don't really get Twitter on a personal level, but I somewhat do on a professional one. I have to do it for a job I do, and I just view it as a way to send out a very quick and short press release.
Facebook is just for fun. It doesn't really seem very different from posting on here, to me. Or, more accurately, it makes more sense than posting on here in a way. On Facebook, I'm connected to people who know me and want to be connected to me. On here, I'm just posting stuff for a bunch of strangers who probably don't care at all what I think.

Twitter is best for professional/business reasons; Facebook for personal or business ones
the problem with facebook is there are so many security issues for personal accounts; hackers are always tricking ppl into clicking on stuff Hag. Muse. Web Goddess. Taurean. Tree Hugger. Poet. Professional Nerd. Geek.

I fixed it for you. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

that about says it all, donnit?

I tried Twitter and just didn't get the appeal. I like Facebook though. I was able to reconnect with some old friends and family members that I had not been in contact with for several years. I'm not one to add a bunch of people just to have so many friends on FB though. I've deleted some people though because they just act like an ass on FB.

What, after all we shared, you'r already breaking up with me.
Should have known. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

You obviously don't have an account. Or no real friends to share stupid daily stuf with on fb. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I agree.I like Facebook because I can keep in touch with all my friends and relatives in one place. But I don't post constant 'status updates' about silly things (lol).I don't think nobody really wants to know that I am having lunch at McDonalds

I agree with the OP....Twitter is useless imo and Facebook wouldn't be any more useful to me than a group email would be. I have no interest in re-connecting with the past....it's in the past for a reason.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Oh, no, baby, I didn't mean you. See, I feel like you really get me. I meant all those other losers who hang out here.

I recently reconnected with a very dear friend (through Facebook) that I lost contact with 18 years ago. Although we're each on opposite sides of the country now, we're currently making plans to spend some time together this Summer. So I appreciate FB for this.
Aside from locating dear friends, I only update my FB profile on occasion with favorite music videos from YouTube.

No kidding! I've come across a few of those hacker links, and they're painfully obvious.

Neither do I really. Although I DO have a Twitter account (actually I have accounts on mostly all of the social media sites, even the played-out ones), though I very rarely ever check into it.

Twitter is about a MILLION times better than Facebook.
It's oft said - "Twitter makes me love people I've never met, Facebook makes me hate the people I know in real life" |

There's a lot of truth to that. Certain family members have turned me completely OFF with some of their rhetoric on FB.

I can relate to that! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Many post on them because the media has convinced them that being a public figure, on any level, is something to aspire to. Celebrity is king, the end all be all, even if only amidst the people in your town or just on your block. Many read them because they are nosey busybodies.

Yeah I'm starting to see Facebook that way. I got in touch with relatives I either lost contact with or claimed they're related to us.
Twitter and I divorced a month ago.

Facebook makes me hate people too because I'm like "why are you announcing this stupid status to everyone who doesn't care" but Twitter is worse because it's all about posting stupid status that nobody cares about.
Facebook is better because there's more more "life" to it. I use it for school, at school, and to

No. Twitter is better because it's a follower system. Don't like someone's tweets? Unfollow them. Want to see them again? Follow them. You can @reply people without folllowing them if you need to communicate.
On Facebook, I get all my fans (I'm a well known artist) adding me. But it's reciprocal which means I have to see all their shit, because the "friendship" system works both ways, unlike the follower system which can remain one way if you wish it to be. |

Twitter was getting ridiculous with its beta at the end. When Twitter first came to be, it was easy to type. Then the thought of talking about stuff on there got boring.

That's what I love most about Facebook: reconnecting with old friends.Everyone's on Facebook these days and I was able to find three friends that I went to elementary school with it's cool having these people back in my life.
