I just can't figure out why he was on the show. I don't watch it anymore and haven't for years (since the Ruben year, I think), so it just seems like a total WTF?! real life non sequitur. "Welcome back to American Idol ladies and gentlemen, here's the legend, Iggy Pop"

And this is not a slag on either Iggy Pop OR American Idol. I just don't get the combination of the two.

American Idol is trying to be edgy. All the other legends they had were too stale, I guess. So they brought in the Godfather of Punk. And while Steven dug it, J-Lo's expression said it all. That said I think people have come to expect this from Iggy. The unexpected thing is he was on Idol in the first place.

But I actually think the reason - and I read it online - why he was on it in the first place:

He's an official Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.

Let's face it, they can get just about anyone they want. They had Jeff Beck for christ sake. They had Prince and he openly mocked the whole thing

Timmy's right they need to continually be more and more edgy, focusing on the performance & creativity instead of the Smokey and Whitney ballads of the first couple seasons

Much as I don't support AI morally, it still is good television!
