I was 25 believe it or not. Wished I would have kept it longer. But in a way it forced me to rid myself of my rose colored beliefs.

I was able to understand how women become insecure over a man. Never fully understood that when I was a virgin. And was able to see that no matter how sweet or true of heart you may present yourself people will take advantage of you because they are selfish. In my idealistic I had a 'fair is fair' mentality. Some folks just don't live by the same code of ethics you may live by. I was so much friendlier and a much open person before I lost my virginity. Now I'm very gaurded and protective of myself cause now I see that there are emotional predators.

Oh, honey - it never does the first time. First, because girls have overly romantic ideas of what it'll be like. And second, because young guys have no fucking clue what they're doing.

I lost mine at 19. I actually picked the guy really carefully. It was someone I knew fairly well, but wasn't in a romantic relationship with. I wanted to do it with someone I didn't have any illusions about. I knew we wouldn't be anything more than friends afterward - but I could trust him to be kind and not spread gossip about me.

As a result, it was a pleasant experience. Not earth-moving, but totally all right and within expectations.
