cherris soul food in brighton....

caught a re run of Gordon Ramsay's show kitchen nightmares on bbc america, and the only restaurant Ive looked up on the internet that still seems to be in business AFTER gordon came is, is Cherri's soul food in brighton. in fact, it seems that Cherri is a star of the tv and radio....has anyone eaten there?

as an aside, i think gordon comes in way to late to save any restaurant....it's scary what goes on in the kitchens...serving microwaved entrees as being prepared fresh, rotting veggies in the fridges....inept cooks who put their fingers in the food...:shudder:

I saw that episode yesterday but didn't catch it from the beginning. She didn't have a british accent, where was she from? The States?

eek So....you mean none of those restaurants that he helped to save from bankruptcy are in business anymore? eek

I thought that at least 70 or 80 % of them turned into successful businesses after getting advice from him.

Interesting.

Interesting.

I wont give you an absolute all or none....after I watched a gordon ramsay marathon, I googled alot of the restaurants...most are closed...the various websites blamed the recession....

My daughter had her wedding feast at Momma Cherries - and it was a great do. Her old restaurant was very small and our party took over the place. When she found out that my new son-in-law was American she offered to cook him some special jumbalaya(?) as she found the Britiish don't like their food as hot and spicy as she would to cook.

Whilst deciding on what to have for dessert, I asked if we could have some Prince music playing (there was general soul music on in the background) and this brought out Momma Cheerie again but this time she brought her husband/partner into meet us. They had recently returned from the States and the highlight of their trip had been a Prince concert that lasted for nearly three hours. They were raving about it. Of course, the music was changed and the wedding party stayed there much longer than planned. (We took the wedding party onto the Pier, wore silly hats and ate Candy Floss.)

The food we had was great, especially the fried chicken and the key lime pie, ooh and the biscuits.

She has moved her business a couple of times in the last few years and it's a mistry why she isn't bigger in Brighton than she is. I've just looked her up on the internet and she now seems to be based in a furniture store!? Perhaps her business sense isn't as good as her cooking. I don't know.

This is such a lovely city to live and work in - I have my office window open now and am listening to the seagulls.

Is there anybody else who has slightly mysterious bruises?

I love Brighton but it´s been a long time since the last time I visited. I think it was in 2005 but I´m not even sure. How long have you been living there? It´s a bit small , isn´t it? But really lovely. How many people live in Brighton?

Live in Brighton for just over twenty five years now - we moved down from south London.

The things I appreciate are:

The commute to work in the morning - traveling on the bus on top of the cliffs, sometimes watching the seagulls gliding along, although it can be quite hair-raising when a gale is blowing.

Sitting in the Pavillion Gardens having a lunch or a walk on the pier.

Even in the height of summer when the place is heaving with visitors, being able to get around town by using the little (some probably no wider than about 3ft) Victorian streets and alley-ways that are not obvious.

The quirkiness of the town and the people in it.

Choccywoccydoodah's

The Lanes - the small independent eclectic shops there

It's a 24hr town.

The nearness to London

I could go on but those are just a few things off the top of my head. I don't know about the population though. It's a fair size and has City status now it's joined with Hove - actually.

Is there anybody else who has slightly mysterious bruises?
