Um, excuse me, but I think you got that backwards. And I speak from experience.

Marriage is what you make of it.

Some individuals have commitment issues (as in your original post) while others find happiness with their partner.

We live in a world filled with people who are flippant about their responsibilities, whether its commitment or parental responsibilities.

My Wife and I dated for 4 years, were Engaged for 2 Years and have been married for almost 5 Years. Thats a total time of 11 years that we have been together. Has my Wife ever cheated on me? Well, I wouldn't know, I haven't been able to watch her 24 / 7 lol. I hope that I have been a good enough Husband for her to not have wanted too. I do know I have never cheated on my Wife, I love my Wife and my Kids too much to risk losing them over something so irresponsible.

Life is short, don't be a dick.

The concept of marriage is a tricky issue nowadays.

The problem is, IMO, that were are too quick to give up on something. We want that which is easy.

After 15, 20 years of money issues, child-rearing issues, busted vacations, PTA nonsense, etc., etc., some couples get lost in the mix. We forget to kiss each other at night before going to bed, or hold grudges over nonsense that in the grand scheme of things really doesn't matter.

Then a new man/woman enters the fold...those "new love" feelings kick in...and suddenly the person lying next to you is no longer an asset, and not worth the effort needed to rekindle what was once special. Suddenly you're so consumed with your secret hookups and thinly-veiled flirtations on Facebook that you grow to resent your spouse.

So the marriage crashes and burns, and people say; "Look! Marriage isn't worth it!"

But the truth is, that YES, marriage is worth it. You choose someone who affects your life so wonderfully that you want to spend the rest of your life with her/him. Someone who cares for you unconditionally and wholeheartedly. Someone who won't allow the distractions of life lead you towards greener pastures (and the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side!).

For those of you who have that special someone, for God's sake hold on to them and do what you have to do to keep the love alive. Because once the fire is out, that other person may not be interested in rekindling it.

Marriage is... one of the most confusing institutions ever created.

People who marry nowadays marry for wrong reasons - like looks, money, wealth, connection or kids out of wedlock.

Back then when people married it was only in means of creating families. Now marriage has kinda been romanticized as something that happens when people are "ready to commit". But people commit in monogamous relationships anyway and don't WANT to pursue marriage.

I guess it's all in how you make it.

Marriage is a battle of WILLs and CANs.

It's not what you CAN do it's what you WILL do.

You can stay faithful but will you?

You can share your assets but will you?

You can give up the last piece of chicken but will you?

You can leave the tv on all night will you?

You can leave the toilet seat down but will you?

You will look at other men but can you take a sock in the jaw from your hubby?

You will look at other women but can you handle sleeping in the same bed with a shrew?

You can wear cheap ass wedding rings but will you?
