Arrogance or ignorance?

If you absolutely had to choose, which of these qualities is "better" in people?

Ignorance, though I'm prone to both myself.

I like the word 'Prone'. It's unusual sounding. Like 'perturbed'. smile

Ignorance can be excused, I guess. Arrogance is generally inexcusable and unnecessary in my opinion. smile

Ooh. Good question.

I wanted to say Arrogance is better. But then ignorance is... unintended. But then maybe arrogance is too.

OK. I'm gonna think sensibly about this.

My conclusion is that I've met people who I would describe as arrogant and I still like them.

Ignorance kind of gets on my nerves. But isn't ignorance just being uneducated?

Right, i'm really going to bed now.

arrogance is the usual cover for ignorance

to be ignorant is almost bein in a spiritual state.

one cannot be serene and serious at the same time.

to be arrogant, one must be serious, you can be a serious asshole.

"ignorance is bliss"

arrogance is the prison one makes for himself

for he must be ever vigilant at that door.

i choose ignorance for myself. i grew tired of

being King and Gatekeeper.

you wonder how it is that it doesn't bother me that no-one

understands whut i write. i say "I DO" and that's whut

really matters, because when i understand it, there is room

for one more to understand it.

the arrogant say they never can understand it, that makes them IGNORANT, the ignorant see understanding in it,

if only a little at a time. that gives them spirit.

i say "let me be ignorant" it helps me understand you all

the more...

(CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!!!)

i am KING BAD!!!
you are NOT...

I don't know, and I don't care......razz

No seriously, although in some ways I probably think they are cousins of each other, ultimately I would think ignorance would be the better of the two.

At least ignorance can possibly be debated /instructed etc. IMO vs arrogance which is usually just a shield put up by someone who wants to veil their insecurities, (thus probably making it harder to reach the person).

Boy am I talking out of my ass or what here...... Someone put me on mute.....

Wow, that's a tough one. Arrogance is annoying, but ignorance can be just plain dangerous to the world.

I would assume ignorance is tougher to cure, so I gotta go arrogance. biggrin

hmm. these words are multi-faceted.

you don't distinguish between ignorance as a product of educational deficit, or ignorance as a product of narrow-minded thinking.

and no distinction is made between arrogance as the by-product of truly great achievement, as opposed to arrogance arising from nothing more than bloated ego.

can't say, really, which i'd prefer. i think i'd avoid narrow-minded ignorance overall.

Great post/distinction. My take on ignorance was most definitely was definitely more from the educational defecit side.

As I was reading the answers to the folks who posted before you, I was trying to figure out how to say actually what you so elegently wrote!

Some peopele choose ignorance and proudly settle in it. This frustrates me to no end!

I can admire arrogance in a person when it is deserved, because it can be something that they worked hard on and are proud of it.

But my examples are just 2 of many ways people can be ignorant or arrogant. And in my examples I prefer an arrogant person to an ignorant!

so my love,

is not narrowmindedness somethin all together different?

that's when one knows and chooses to ignore. they narrow

whut they know to fit whut they choose. and that is an arrogant act.

those whom have had TRUELY GREAT ACIEVEMENTS in life

do not chose arrogance as a way of showin their achievement, they choose to be humble. arrogance is a biproduct of entitlement...

but all in all

i too frown on "narrowminded ignorance"

To me ignorance is complete cluelessness and not necessarily mean spirited. Arrogance by far is the worst. It is condescending and truly believing your value is greater than that of another. Arrogance is harder for me to forgive.

I believe this completely. We sometimes think we are more knowledgeable about something then we truly are and therefore may say something completely ignorant. I have done it. It is a whole different thing from saying something that implies that you are a more valuable person than another.
