The Hangover Part 2 trailer being pulled from theatres

Okay, this just makes no damn sense whatsoever!

New 'Hangover 2' Trailer Is Too Hot For MPAA

by: Will Leitch

So shocking, this trailer. Warner Bros. Like many, we were a bit concerned about the first extended trailer for this summer's "The Hangover Part II," not because it didn't look funny, exactly, but because it looked so much like the original film that the mystery -- one of the best parts of the first film -- would be gone. Director Todd Phillips must have seen some of the reaction, because he made sure everyone knew that the trailer was too PG-13 to show what the movie was really about.

But it must not have been PG-13 enough. The MPAA and Warner Bros have demanded that the trailer...l theaters.

Slashfilm obtained a copy of the letter sent to theaters, which states (emphasis theirs):

"Warner Bros. and the M.P.A.A. have instructed all theatres to remove The Hangover Part II trailer #2 from Source Code and any other placements. These #2 trailers need to be DELETED FROM YOUR SERVER." adding: "We greatly appreciate your immediate cooperation on this matter."

So, what's the issue? The trailer doesn't strike us as particularly offensive, but we do not have delicate sensibilities. Also: Why "Source Code," specifically? Did Summit just want the film as far away from "Hangover" as possible? Why? Is it the coarse language? Was Jake Gyllenhaal offended? (You do not want to offend Jake Gyllenhaal.) We are so full of questions. We asked the MPAA for comment, and they referred us to Warner Bros, who, of course, aren't commenting on the matter. (A Warner Bros rep hasn't responded to our request for comment.)

UPDATE: Warner Bros issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter regarding the trailer's hasty removal from theaters: "In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens."

The only other time we can recall something like this happening was when the "Paranormal Activity 2" t...was pulled from theaters after "numerous complaints" that the 72-second preview was too scary for the general public. Of course, many suspected that was a stunt intended to generate press for the film -- and this latest development certainly hasn't stopped people from talking about "The Hangover Part II."

I didn't find The Hangover to be particularly smart or witty in its' attempt at comedy, so I was planning on passing up the second installment anyway- they're doing me a favor by not having to sit through the trailer coffee

Call me old school....but I'm guessing perhaps a monkey sucking/chewing on a simulated erection is perhaps not family friendly and hence 'goodbye trailer'.

Plus it does look exactly the same story

I don't think I laughed once through the entire movie.

The Hangover was a funny movie, overall. If you didn't like it, no big whoop. It was good for it's genre and intended audience.

The trailer is indeed too saucy, but could be limited to playing only before R rated movies.

This is simply Viral Marketing. Consider how many people will try to watch the trailer now that it's been "banned"

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Hey Carrie!

No - not even at that. That scene just seemed conjured up to try to be bizarre simply for being bizarre's sake and not funny, if that makes any sense. (Probably not). It's just like the tiger in the bathroom scene. So many people have asked me how I didn't find that funny. Again - and I know I sound like a fuddy duddy, but contrived bizarre doesn't equal funny in my book.

The only thing in the whole movie I remember being moderately amused at was when the bearded guy, whose entire existence was to be inappropriate, pretended to jerk off the little baby. I remember that being so off the charts wrong that I found it moderately funny. I remember saying "MAN is that guy obnoxious"!

That was it. The rest of the movie was a complete bore for me. Sorry boxed

I tend to feel the same way. I think the sequel will not be as good as the original, but I still can't wait to see it. I just like the characters and the humor.

The trailer wasn't funny and it DID resemble the original trailer. I'm not sure they can recapture the magic from the original. Although I do think the first one wasn't as funny as everyone had hyped it up to be.

Maybe I thought it was funny, because that's how I imagine guys act when they get together...like a bunch a dummies with everything falling apart! nana

Regardless...the trailer DOES look like the same story line as the first one.

AND I'M GONNA WATCH IT (and probably laugh)!

What can I say?

Maybe I like my movies like I like my men...the dumber the better! wink

I posted before reading your posts.

I didn't laugh at all either. I kept waiting for it and waiting for it. neutral

And trust me I love dumb humor. I'm the first one to laugh at fart schtick or they type of stuff on the Scary Movie flicks. Sometimes a film has to be just crappy (ie Scary Movie) for dumb humor to work. I felt like Hangover was so praised as a good film and on top of that the great hype that none of it worked for me...at all.

Ah well, at least I got to look at Brad Cooper. drool

I actually expected to hate this film. Everyone that I knew that had seen it raved about it. I'm not normally into gross/inane/schtick type humor, so no one was more surprised than me at how much I LOVE this movie.

Mind you I can't remember much of the details, but I knew I was in trouble a few minutes in when some of the folks I was watching it with (who had already seen it) were getting excited for upcoming scenes.

The scenes happened, they cackled, and I was neutral right there with you.

And trust me I love dumb humor.

Me too. But I'm starting to realize that it's lmost impossible for me to put a finger on what works and what doesn't. I'm not a big Jim Carrey guy but I love Dumb and Dumber. Will Ferrell is more miss than hit for me, but I think Anchorman is an all time classic.

Why do those work and some other not? confuse I have no idea. I just know good dumb humor when I see it, and Hangover was nowhere near the zip code of funny for me.

I think it must just be one of those LOVE or HATE movies. There seems to be very little middle ground on it.

Here, here.

There have simply just been other films that have done the dumb schtick better...and the road caper better, and the lost weekend in Vegas better, and the three dudes stuck with a baby better, and the we're going to miss the wedding by the hair of our chinny chin-chin better, etc., etc. They tried to mesh at least 5 didfferent tried and true plot formulas together and in the end it was just wulgar without wit and fell flat.

I still laugh watching it.

I'm one of those guys with friends who can do stuff like that.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
