Tear Jerkers
I'll confess that in general I do not prefer to watch any sappy movies. I've been accused by friends as being heartless when everyone is crying durnig a movie and I'm rolling my eyes.
There have been a couple of movies that have made me a little tear-y. Last night I was trying to remember which movies those were and I drew a blank! I guess I'm trying to block them from my memory.
So can I get some help from my orgers? Help me remember what movies touched me by telling me the ones that brought tears to your eyes! Were there any movies that made you just all out sob?

Imitation of Life is another good one.

I am very sensitive. Movies make me cry that don't make others cry. Just the grand artistry of some movies make me cry.
I'd suggest seeing the film One Hour Photo. That last ten minutes made me bawl, because the guy in the scene wasted his life so much.
Color Purple makes SS guards weep. Celllieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I posted this before, from the foreign film, Umberto D, by Victorio D'seca. The guy tries to get rid of his dog flag and oh god, just watch:
All you others say Hell Yea!!

That movie had the complete opposite reaction for me . . . Annette (Sandra Gould) make my hand itch. The premise of the movie really. . . .
Getting emotional -interms of crying- about a moive, I can't name not one.

I looooooooove a weepy. Some of my favorites are Brief Encounter, Now, Voyager, and Summertime.
But the one movie that always, always makes me cry at the end is Field of Dreams. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

They've been airing that movie or a couple of month now on TMC, Ms. Hepburn finest performance. (IMHO)

I just saw it last week (when I was home, sick). We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

hope you are feeling better. The last scenes of Summertime, very tender, I can understand someone being moved.

I know someone has got to know a movie that can make me cry! Hmm....maybe I am heartless. I'm like the Tin Man here...

You didn't cry at the Lion King????
Heartless I tell ya!
For me, crying is largely tied to PMS. Depending on the time of the month I can cry at commercials.
That ASPCA commerical with Sarah MacLachlan fucks me up e'ry damn time.

Hey Carrie
I'm with Genesia on Field of Dreams - the game of catch with his father. When he calls him dad? You may need to watch that one again.
Color Purple too. Quite a few opportunities there.
Let's try a few more
Have you not seen Schindler's List? There are so many scenes there that are worthy of a cry it's almost not worth trying to single one out. But for me personally, even something as simple as the families he saved placng stones at his grave at the end turn me to luggage. There's one in particular where an elderly person places a stone down and then rubs the gravestone. Kills me.
My Life with Nicole Kidman and Michael Keaton. Haven't seen this one in over a decade so I don't know if it has aged well, but I definitely remember crying on that one too.
How about Rambo? That speech at the end about the Vietnam Vets.... (OK just kidding).....
There's definitely more - I'll post when i think about them.

Hey TD3
Based on our Academy Award thread I'm shocked you didn't mention Titanic.
You know at the end? "Get on the boat Rose"!!!! Oh don't tears of pain count too? [Edited 3/15/11 9:00am]

Titanic does make me want to weep. But only because it's the worst friggin' movie EVER - and the greatest example yet of the motion picture academy being totally hornswoggled. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

You know I HATE that movie . . . it was horribly. I know it was bad when my mother said, Kate Winslet should jump so we could go to dinner.

Hi Fenwick!
I have seen Schindlers List. Didn't cry. Don't get me wrong - the ending with all the real survivors was touching, but no
I'll try My Life, but you can't pay me enough money to sit through Field of Dreams one more time. Boooooooring!
(Rambo is actually more my style of movie )
Titanic was definitely a no-cry movie for me.
I'll put Once Were Warriors on my list to see.
Keep 'em coming! | |

Did you ever read Kenneth Turan's review of Titanic in the LA Times. You will love it.

Well that clip didn't make me sad at all!
Yeah - he tries to throw the dog into the train. Then the dog gives him the cold shoulder for a second. But the pine cone brought them back together again, so it's all good.

Nothing personal, but there is something seriously wrong with you..lol
You didn't cry during Schindler's List? When he drops the gold ring? He starts to cry--you didn't bawl like I did? I'm a man? grrr.
I cried when ET went away.
I cried when Dorothy said goodbye to the Scarecrow.
The Color Purple--you didn't cry? When they do patty cake? When Shug hugs her daddy? This girl needs help. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I don't think I've ever cried as hard at anything as I did through that film. It was all I could do not to sob out loud in the theatre and one of my friends actually WAS crying out loud.
I watched it once more on dvd and just cried and cried and cried since I was alone.
Admittedly, though, I'm an easy cry. Just about anything can make me tear up, whether out of joy or sadness. I'll even cry over a song or painting I think is beautiful and I routinely cry over news casts. |

The first movie that ever made me cry was Charlotte's Web when I was a kid.
I remember going to the movies and watching Philadelphia...the whole f*cking theater was BAWLING @ that scene with the music after he dies.
The last movie that made me cry was that stupid dog movie Marley & Me. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Kung Fu Panda...when master Oogway ascending to heaven via cherry blossom petals
Toy Story III: When all the toys were in the incinerator and were about to die...and all just held hands and waited for what seemed to be the inevitable

Hell, I cry at tv commercials sometimes. If they were designed to be endearing or sweet, I'm all
I hate that!
Let's see...crying movies.
Color Purple...already mentioned. That's the one that gets me everytime and it's a good movie, so I really remember it.
So many other movies I just don't remember even if they made me cry, because I cry so easily at them.
I'm not a crier otherwise and these days prefer not to watch tear-jerkers.
Still thinking...many of them have already been mentioned.
....blank. I'm firmly planted in denial
