Where do they usually hang in your area? I know you said you dont go to the clubs often anymore. I think gay black guys in the past (at least just two years ago just in Minnesota) used to think mexicans were snobby because they always clung to eachother. I was used to seeing more hispanics and blacks mix well in New York..thats why there are so many 'blatinos' in the East Coast. Here, it's like apples and oranges half the time.

Down here, it has always mainly been strictly just blacks and whites and they always hung with each other in their own clubs and neighborhoods until just recent years. In the last decade, a lot of Mexicans have moved into the area and many of them are illegals working for slave wages being ripped off by white construction company owners.

I see a ton of Mexicans a few streets over from my apartment who live in several of the apartment complexes on that road. I see them walking down the street all the time and in the nearby stores or I see them at various places doing construction work. However, I never see them at any events or social functions. They seem to keep to themselves in their own places that they hang. I can't say I blame them though because it seems like so many people down here, both black and white, hate them. However, apparently they don't hate them enough to have them around to work for slave wages. But then again, that's The South for ya.

Some places more of some than others due to what the population was I guess, but I can't think of a place where I really felt (in a gay club enviroment) that one was more welcome than the other. Even if there were some groups here and there within one club hanging with others of their own race in their immediate groups, they all co-existed and mingled just fine. I know that shit is out there though.

You know how I feel about all this and you know I totally agree with you. As a straight male, my only experience with what is being discussed is that from 1990-2000 when I was regularly going to raves (and then clubs) in SF, many of them were at gay clubs. They very quickly realized that if they hosted straight rave nights they would make money hand over fist (no joke, please ). (Some truly epic and legendary raves went down at a little dive of a club called the The End Up - great times, I tell ya! Its changed so much since then. Its become all respectable and stuff. ) Now, just because they raves were being thrown by straight people and not being marketed as "gay" didn't mean that none of the people who regularly attended those clubs were going to show up. In fact, it was pretty normal for a good portion of them to at least pop in and see what us drug addled rave kids were up to, dancing all night long just for the sake of... ya know... dancing all night long. During that time I never noticed any type of seperation amongst the gay attendees. In fact, they were often more open and welcoming than a lot of the club kids (probably because they'd already been doing this for years). However, as versiongirl mentioned, a majority of them were definitely white.

Beyond that I can only speak from what I've heard my friends/co-workers say and how I've seen them act. My opinion in that regard is that there are no more or less dumb fucks in that demographic than in any other, but there was definitely a few less haters. Some of them are/were haters, and I agree so strongly with what you said about that. But in general it seemed to me to be a slightly more enlightened, or at least sensitive bunch regarding race and gender discrimination. Probably from having to deal with prejudice themselves.

Cavaet: I'm a straight white guy and I don't know how to be anything but that. However, I think I was raised fairly well and I think I've lived a lot more years than what my age would have most people believe (which is to say, I've experienced a lot). Whenever we get into these conversations I don't post unless I think I have something to add and I try to be as honest as possible. However, I accept fully that I might not have ONE DAMN CLUE what the hell I'm talking about. So if I ever, ya know, insult somebody, or say some shit that sounds completely ridiculous, please do not hesitate to verbally slap me about the head and shoulders.

Yes they do keep to themselves alot. I don't know what to feel about illegals in politics ...mixed feelings I guess. They have been nothing but nice to me the ones I encountered at least so I have nothing but respect for them when I meet them. Mexican Americans in the gay lifestyle though is about the same as straight though...they don't really blend in well and clique like....unlike Puerto Ricans in New York.

The South must be a very intresting place to live I have to say.
