I used to have a friend who had a Papilon she called "Chakah" as in Zulu. That lil mofo was ornery. He bit me on my ankle.

Adorable (if bred properly), but can have a lot of problems (e.g. hip dysplasia, entropion) that require surgery. They also need a shitload of grooming to keep them mat-free and are very cat-like (i.e. damn near impossible to train). Some even have a nasty edge.

Ours was gentle as a lamb, but I wouldn't want to go through all that vigorous coat-raking again.

Every Chow I've ever come across has seemed painfully shy. That just doesn't seem right for a dog.

There is some Irish dog breeder out there who is certainly heartless for abandoning this little poor little springer spaniel pup. 8-week-old Alice is as cute as a button, but was thrown out by her previous owner because she was born deaf and assumed unable to be trained.

She was picked up by a animal shelter who adopted her out to Marie Williams and Mark Morgan (who are themselves deaf), and now the couple is teaching Alice to respond to sign language commands.

I'm trying to resist getting yet another one of these.

Duuuuude! That's the only type of dog I've wanted for many years (since I saw them in a dog food commercial ). But I'm going to hold off until I'm absolutely sure I have a home and lifestyle that would be appropriate for them. And if I never have one then I'll just enjoy looking at pictures of 'em. But dang I think they're beautiful. I ran into a lady walking them along the waterfront in SF one day last summer. The sun was shining on them at just the right angle and they looked SOOOO blue. Who wouldn't want a blue dog?
