Why do beds have to be so daggone expensive?

Sweetie and I have been looking for a new bed - and I am suffering from an acute case of sticker shock. I really didn't want to spend an arm and a leg, but the bed (mattress and box spring) I like best is $2500. omfg

Actually...the one I super-duper liked was $4 grand. But there's no way in hell I'm popping for that. hmph!

I know we spend a third of our lives in bed. But come the fuck on. pout

I think we spent about $3K on our pillow top king size king koil mattress and solid pine slatted bed frame/base 10 years ago, and i expect it to last another 20. I take it for granted how well I sleep on it... Until I have to sleep somewhere else lol

I just bought a mattress and box spring last September at Macys. I spent 1400. I'm happy with my mattress. But yes, they have gone up in price. (reg price 2499).

(I guess a good time to buy a mattress is when they switch models-I'm not certain what time of year that is.) My last mattress lasted 18 years. Oddly enough I chose the same mattress maker as the previous mattress without knowing it.

When I first bought my house, I didn't have a lot of extra money, so I went to Bob's Discount Furniture and got my bedroom furniture. I got the mattress and box spring there, too. I didn't pay a whole lot, but that bed is so incredibly comfortable! cloud9

You're gonna be spending a lot of hours in your bed every day (or should be!), so it's worth it, right?!

I know, right?!

Just be careful if you start looking for bargains.

They can recycle used mattress and sell them in stores as if they were new.

I saw a investigative report on it. They slit open the mattress and

found all kinds of nasty little bugs living inside!!!

Well...the deed is done. I didn't buy the $2500 bed. I looked at that one when I was by myself yesterday. Sweetie went with me today and, when he had me sit cross-legged on the bed (which is how I usually use my computer and put on my make-up), I was so uncomfortable doing that (my butt just sank - putting a lot of pressure on my hips) that I decided it wasn't the bed for me.

So we went back to the first store we'd visited and bought one that ended up being less than half the price. He did the haggling - and got the price down another $200, and got the guy to throw in two memory foam pillows, a frame, and free delivery.

It's being delivered tomorrow! excited

Of course, we had to give the current bed a farewell fuck. lol

I've bought 2 mattresses since taking up housekeeping. The first one lasted me 15 years, and I paid no more than $400 for it, but that was back in the '70s. My present mattress was bought in 1995 I think, and it's still going strong. Paid no more than $600. I don't like those pillow-tops. I used to go with a guy who bought one and the first time I spent the night, I woke up with a killer back ache. I need a firm mattress.

the only beds I think are safe from there are the foam mattress/slats combo, my parents have had that type of deal all their lives and are STILL happy with that in their mid-60s

I used to have a slatted sprung mattress on legs from IKEA, gave me and my bed-buddies back-aches.

mine is made of foam. It is not bad initially, but it begins to sag after an hour, and by the end of the night it has a huge pit the center!

It's not uncomfortable, I guess, but it still bothers me!

what's underneath your mattress? the foam is meant to give and contour to your body, but you also need support underneath that is firm but not hard

Its an investment in your snooze comfort. They do last a long time so when you take the cost and divide it by the number of years you will own it....not that expensive at all.

It's about 2 years old but it did this right from the start! I guess they claim the foam conforms to your body, and it does (it is pretty comfortable) but it does not spring back, it stays saggy.

It's supposed to be the firmest mattress, too, but it is not nearly as firm as others I've tried.

Not a disaster, just weird

they must be making them much more cheaply these days sad

we have 2 of those, their cheapest ones for the kids, who don't weigh much, and I can happily sleep on their beds, they have layers of that eggshell kind of foam and they spring back, We have had those about 8 years?
