I'm an alcoholic. I don't usually drink THAT much anymore, nor do I drink every single day, but I can't really control myself about drinking and quite often I feel like I need it to make a day good. I want to slow right down but so far I can't. Working on it though, especially the amount I drink per time. I have good spells of 3 or 4 days without drinking but the minute I have the next drink then I'm likely to drink every day for the next 4 or 5.

Working out is the habit I'm trying to use to break my drinking habit. Mixed success so far, but I think it's the way to go for me, throwing myself into something good.

Thanks. I'd like to just never drink at home, only when I go out. That'd be the ultimate goal.

Me too, sometimes, actually.

Or when we have people over. We definitely cocktail it up a few days more a week than we probably should.

Like yesterday, in the morning I was just starting to get over a really bad cold. By the early afternoon I decided to have a couple of bottles (640ml each) of beer. By the evening I felt awful. I didn't really enjoy drinking it at the time either. So 2 bottles, hardly a large amount, nor was I drunk, but I have to be honest and see that there's a problem there. I no longer drink bottle after bottle at home, normally just 1-3 bottles, but it's that feeling that I need it, where I end up drinking on days I had no plan to. I'll beat it though. smile

physco185, it's not easy right now. My sister in law and her husband are over from Switzerland. They're not big drinkers, but I think he has an expectation of me so he drinks more when he's here as he thinks it's my favourite thing to do. We had a big family lunch and then unbeknownst to me he went and bought a couple of bottles of beer for us to share. Later Mon thought we should buy some back so she got some more. Mon's brother then came home from work just before midnight with lawd knows how many bottles. lol He'd come home early so he could join in with the drinking and cards so I stayed up and drank for a while before finally I made my excuses and went to bed. I feel in really good shape in one way from all the exercise I've been doing. I've lost fat around my waist to the point where everything feels all hard and tight around my chest and abs, but it also feels that way in a bad way, like my organs are suffering in there (probably my liver). Maybe my kidneys too, I don't really know. I've been taking medication for a bad cold and my body just feels really taut and hard, in both good and bad ways. shrug

if you're an alcoholic..there's no such thing as "id like to drink just on weekends..or, i'd like to limit it to a drink now and again"...

I'm sure there are AA groups where you are, Fauxie..and your family should be more sensitive, and you shouldn't be afraid to exlain to them, that you can't be around alcohol. Same for you, Phsyco

i view the whole chicken/egg thing as the yin/yang universal equation. to separate one from the other would render the one no longer itself. therefore, i like to sort of blend the concept and call the finished product a "chegg" confused . the chegg came first.

I tend at times to think it's not that serious, like I'm exaggerating and being silly if I use the word 'alcoholic', but at other times I see elements to it that definitely point to an addiction, so even if I'm not the classic swigger of spirits in the morning to get me through the day type there are some issues there for sure I'd like to deal with. My sister in law and her husband are leaving Bangkok for the mountains for a few days so I think things will be back to normal, rather than that holiday/celebratory type atmosphere of having guests staying that can make ppl drink more. Maybe that will help.

I'm not into alcohol or smoking, but I do consider myself having an addictive personality and know that I'm aware of falling into addiction...I do have addiction to spending and different things when I'm under stress.

The very best of luck to you.

Addiction is a pain in the diddies, but you seem determined, which is a huge part of quitting.
